When was the last time the Wolves pulled off a win when they're best two players struggled from the field?
This isn’t the same Wolves we’ve seen since KG was traded, it’s becoming more and more obvious by the game that this team team can compete with ANYONE.
Wayne has been having a pretty nice stretch

I like Wayne better off the bench
Although I agree that he’s having a nice stretch. Putting him in the starting rotation now might put too much pressure on him
JonnyRotten Flynn, that is
You mean start the same Wayne who isn't an NBA talent?

No SnP. It’s not a cult. It’s a passion. But at times it sure takes on cult symptoms. You don’t need to brow beat your thoughts into people. There isn’t a single person here who doesn’t know where you stand.
Why can’t you just enjoy the moment, or at least let others know that you are.
The constant negativity was understandable the last two years. Now it’s a downer.

Yes, get it.
Get the help. I don’t think the Wolves have enough to make playoffs this year, but one good wing makes this a very scary team. The difference for 20 minutes between a good wing and Wes will be 5-10 pts per game (differential).

Not my point at all.
This notion that there are only two players on this team is wearing thin.
That's literally true
But this team is thin and very weak at spots, and a win like this doesn’t make that untrue.
You can't...dust...for vomit.
That's not what he said, he just said we need wing players, which is the truth.
Watching Wes out there and having to watch pgs play sg should make that point obvious.
As far as the two players thing, you have two players that you can consistently count on on a nightly basis, on most nights they give you awesome production, can you really say that about anyone else?
LOL. He says it all the time. Two players. It used to be one.
He wanted to trade Ricky ten games ago.
I'll assume that's not directed at me
Which the comment you’re responding to is, I think. :-) Because I know I haven’t said anything to that effect.
You can't...dust...for vomit.
Ah, I see...SnP
You can't...dust...for vomit.
Regardless of whether that is what he says or not that isn't what he said in this thread he just stated that we don't have wing players, which we don't(at least not consistent ones).
Also, as much as I’m on here I never once recall SnP wanting to trade Rubio, he’s stated that this team is in dire need of wing players and that the two players you speak of are awesome, I really don’t think you can argue with either point.
it used to be one

did something to contribute to the win. Such a fun season so far!

Absolutely
Clutch plays all around. Darko’s D was fantastic, O was gravy. Pek scored a big bucket when they iso’d for him – not just his usual opportunistic seals under the basket Ellington (a 2) held his own when we went 3 guards at the end and the clips looked to expose him with Gomes (a 4/3). Wes was looking to drive and got to the line, he hit a big 3 if I remember right.

Wolves offer Love 4yr max extension. Love wants 5yr "franchise" extension
Kahn: Mr Love, would you like to accept a 4 year maximum salary extension?
Love: While I appreciate your offer, my cold-fukkin-blooded 3ptr vs the clipps dictates I deserve a 5yr ‘franchise’ extension.
Kahn: You got it.
Love: Thank you
Anything else than that and Kahn should get meet Bubba in The’Hole for two weeks.
by Skat the Rat on Jan 21, 2012 1:06 AM CST reply actions 1 recs
This might not be the place for it but why would the Wolves offer the max but less years? I understand wanting him to take less money for the team but less years? Don’t you want your best player (who’s also really young) locked up for as long as possible? Odd negotiating strategy.
I 100% agree
Thats why, if your Kahn, you cave and give him Max5 as he wants, as opposed to Max4 as POBO has on the table as of earlier today.
by Skat the Rat on Jan 21, 2012 1:11 AM CST up reply actions
New CBA
allows for only one player per team to be “the guy” and have a 5-year max deal. if they use it on Love, they can’t use it on anyone else (Rubio) until the 5 years are up.
It’s stupid but sort of understandable. Signing Love to 4 years gives them more flexibility.
My opinion: flexibility is worthless. You have the guy now. Keep him forever.

I'm with you
The thought process could be we want Love for 4 years, because 4 years from now he’ll be negotiating an extension with a good team and a good PG. Whereas when Rubio is signing his 1st deal as a UFA there’s a chance that Love has left whether he signs for 4 years or 5 right now. If that were the case it’d be nice to have Rubio for the extra year. In other words, the FO must view Love as more signable way down the line than they view Rubio.
It’s incredibly stupid, yes… but there is followable logic.
Uh - Minus the "get"

I know - a very gutsy and risky play call
Awesome execution. Rubio & Ellington held off three Clippers, including C Jordan, blocking better than the Vikes O line all year.
But with a tie game, they just needed a layup, dunk, or one made free throw. Seems like you’d try to get something going towards the basket. Maybe that was what the initial Williams cut was for.
Cold blooded shots by Rubio & Love after struggling somewhat. Awesome, terrific game.

(I should add, "in sideline inbounding plays")
(a little different if there’s 20 seconds left, as with Clips last possession. Working the ball into the paint vs a single pass from out of bounds—that’s a huge difference. The 3pt attempt usually IS the safe play call, assuming you can get a good look for a good shooter, as Adelman did.)

Because he clearly loves Rubio.
Awesome
I love how much cheering there is in LA. Also, look at the stands…so many people grab their heads before the shot even goes in. They are Clippers fans, they know, they know.
Oh, and somebody needs to wrestle Martell to the ground so Ricky can shave that thing off his head. I vote for Pek.
He who rides a wolf cannot dismount.
I have a feeling
that these last two games will symbolize a turning point for this team. They’ve played pretty poorly in the first half of both only to come back and win in gritty fashion.
Don't say he's not a banana sandwich.
Throughout Love’s career there were people that doubted we should trade OJ Mayo for him. There were people that doubted he’d be a great 6th man. There were people that doubted he should be a starter. There were people that doubted we should trade Al Jefferson instead of him. There were people that doubted he should be an all-star. There were people that doubted him as a competitor. There were people that doubted he should be on Team USA in 2010. There were people that doubted he could be the best player on a good team. There were people that doubted him as a “clutch” player. There were people that doubted he should get a max deal. Don’t tell him he’s not a banana sandwich, or he’ll take it to heart and literally turn into a banana sandwich. We don’t need that.

Every once in a while, you see what Joe D. was thinking.
Best win I’ve seen in a while…
Fans will be fans, but sometimes I swear listening to the trade talk on this site,
Is like being the only sober person in a bar full of drunks. Nobody makes any sense and everyone loves it. I thought maybe it would get a rest at least until tomorrow. Chemistry is being born and is growing exponentially. I’m sure glad Adelman & Company haven’t been moping around whining about the lack of talent. They’ve been coaching and teaching and the results are palpable. Has Wayne Ellington been who we thought he was in the last five games? Was Darko who we thought he was tonight? It might be time to quietly drop the road to 58 – 8 mania and the really bad professional basketball player depression and just enjoy what’s happening. We should be rolling around in unbridled optimism after this one. His Lordship Coach Adelman knows who to call on and when. I’m sure that when a deal comes along that they feel they have to make, they’ll make it. However, I’m guessing it will be hard for them to part with these guys because, thankfully, they believe they can get these guys to realize their potential. If Kevin “banana sandwich” Love takes ten last second shots this year he’ll probably miss six or seven of them. If they fight all the way through the fourth quarter every night like they did tonight, they’ll give RA a chance to orchestrate a lot of wins with the players they have got right now.

I find it bs that after the best win the team has had in maybe ever your first comment is to reinforce that negative mantra.
Did the " two man team" win tonight? No. The team won. And all of the non NBA talent contributed. Get over it SnP. The talent is better than you think and it’s trending. Adelman is a coach. Rambis is a destroyer.
There are no surprises for me in what’s taking place. They are in year three of a 5 year build. those aren’t kahn’s words, they’ve been mine. And now they are ahead of schedule.
You are going to be wrong on much of the talent here. They aren’t championship calibre at this point but they are a fun, gritty, exciting group who is trending. Why can’t you just enjoy the process? You have an abundance to offer but when your first line after this win is negative, well, frankly you seem desperate.
This win is the one I’ve been waiting for. When they finally draw the play and hit the buzzer beating, game winning shot that has eluded them. My first thought was awesome. Milestone. Mark the date. The corner is officially turned. The coach is Boris Spassky (sp). There wasn’t a negative thought in my head nor a need to express one.

I looked into Wayne's history
because I’d like to believe he’s turned a corner. I loved the pick when we selected him, and he seems like he ought to be a decent rotation player.
So the problem is that he’s had stretches like his last 5 games before: a couple in his rookie year and one last year. Those periods of 5 to 10 games aside, his aggregate numbers for those seasons were not good. Maybe what he’s doing now means there’s “chemistry growing exponentially” and we’ll see a lot more of it; or maybe it’s just part of the random variation we’ve seen from him for two full seasons.
Overall, I don’t know how you can watch our wing play and NOT want some kind of trade, or hope that Martell or Lee somehow fill the void. We’ve gotten a lot better, and I enjoyed the hell out of last night’s game, but think how good we could be with one more solid starter at a position of need?

The anticipation of a trade
at some point this year, to be executed by competent personnel people, is one of the most exciting parts of the season for me. I’m not wrong in feeling that excitement. Our team is coming together, chemistry is improving, players seem to be finding proper roles, etc. But that doesn’t make our team balanced by any means.
Missed this one, to my lament!
3 and 1/2 hour drive to the cabin last night, where there is no cable and dialup speed internet means no feeds for me. Damn!!! This is one I would have loved to have seen! Stat lines showed the Pups got the vast majority of their points in the lane, another 1/3 beyond the stripe, and the Duke hit some mid- range stuff. The Clips got the majority of there points mid- range with the rest split between the lane and 3s.
It is the sign of good coaching to have the splits on shot selection show a level of intellegent play that hasn’t happened before and that wins games against favored opponents. RA has accomplished a great amount with this young team already, I can only salivate at the thought of what can happen with more practice time and an actual preseason next year!
Great Win! Darko getting 22 in the post, most amazing !
2012 the year of Twolves porcelain extraction?
Wow
I grew up loving this team. I was a high school senior in 2004 and spent all the money I earned working at a gas station buying tickets to playoff games the year we made the WCF. Slowly, all the people I talked/watched Wolves with started giving up on this team. I used to have to beg people to go to games with me. I moved to KC in 2010 with my now wife, because she wanted to be closer to her family. My only request is that we bought League Pass so I could follow the team. Last year was horrific. The apathy from others turned into mocking when I’d insist on watching the game when my team was 30 games under .500.
It’s all changing. KC is a college basketball town. Everyone seems to hate the NBA. Lately, I’m having random people at work ask me about Rubio. I don’t get annoying looks from my wife when I sit down to watch the game. We watched the second half of the game in our bedroom last night.. When Love hit that shot I started screaming expletives at the T.V. She was asleep, and probably thought someone was breaking into the house. I told her it was just the Wolves breaking the door down. This team is arriving.
When the shot fell, I received four text messages from guys back home I used to go to games with. It seems the Spanish Sensation is leading the bandwagon now. Percherov, Sasha, Flynn, Hollins, bad draft picks… it’s all in the past now. I’m done dwelling on the POBO’s errors the past couple years (well, maybe not Wes). This year is his clean slate and he better finish the job.
This team is still going to struggle at times. The difference is there isn’t any quit in this squad. Darko and Pek carried this team almost all night. Derrick Williams had a great run in the fourth quarter that kept us in the game. The Clippers seemed surprised we weren’t folding. Hell, Wes shot three free throws!!! And when it mattered most… Ricky and Kevin brought it home.
I’m rambling now and I’m sorry. I was reading through the thread this morning and honestly to god started getting a little dusty. When no one else I knew cared about this team… CH was here. I’ve lurked for a couple years now. I’ve learned a lot about basketball and a lot about people I’ll probably never meet. All the die hards that live on this site deserved what happened last night. Thanks again to everyone that makes this community so great, and gave the hopeless somewhere to belong. The bandwagon is about to get awfully full, and while all are welcome… I feel better knowing a lot of us never gave up.
