GQ Interviews the Unicorn
GQ; You guys have been a lot of fun to watch so far.
Ricky Rubio: Well, we're not winning, so...
GQ: Yeah, but, c'mon—this is loads better than last year. What has to change?
Ricky Rubio: We're close, it's just not enough. We're young, we can do good things, but only if we believe we can, and sometimes in games, we're like two different teams in the same game. Like in Chicago, in the first quarter we were terrible, and then by the second quarter everything was going well—but we had to recover twenty points in five minutes. We have to play that way from the start.
GQ: What about the best single pass you've made?
Ricky Rubio: I don't know, I don't want to think about that.
GQ: Was it the one through Dirk's legs to Anthony Tolliver?
Ricky Rubio: [considers] I just want to stay with the big winning like we did against Dallas and San Antonio and Washington.
GQ: What's the best movie you've seen recently?
Ricky Rubio: All of my teammates are talking about Warrior—so I think that's next up next trip. Kevin Love and all these guys are saying it's a great movie.
Young athletes have terrible taste in movies.

Warrior...
I was pleasantly surprised by “Warrior”… not saying it was one of the my top five for 2011, but it was decent. I went on the recommendation of the filmspotting podcast; it also carries a 83% fresh critics rating at rotten tomatoes http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1212910-warrior/ .
Warrior gets my respect
much better than most movies of that sort and now that I’ve seen it, I finally have a clue about mixed martial arts.
Very good story up at Grantland about the boxer who was to Jack Johnson what Jack Johnson was to Muhammed Ali, btw.
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
Way to bury the lead, Goo...
“Barcelona,” he says, “is very similar to Santa Monica. I was out there two years ago to watch the NBA Finals. I got a sense of the place—that the people were crazy for the Lakers.”
So is it a bummer that you didn’t land in Miami or L.A.? “Nah, when you play in the NBA, the city, I think, is not the most important thing. The better place might be one that’s not at the top right now—a place that can use me, that can grant me experience.” Which is not to write off a winter field trip to the Mediterranean. “Love, Beasley, and I were joking about getting the whole team out to Barcelona to practice,” he says. “They were joking…but not, you know?”
So basically, it’s nice to go where he’s needed in order to learn and grow….then he and Love can escape to Barcelonica in 2014/15
Used and Abused
We should feel like the Maid of Honor in Bridesmaids.
Michael Beasley is a Small Forward. Derrick Williams is a Power Forward.
but isn't getting used sometimes enjoyable?
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
If that doesn't work, cheat.

Every quite I see from him says
Nah, I don’t think a big market is good to start out with. There’s no pressure here etc.
It’s never yeah, this is a good place to be…

I *do* think it's way too early to say he'll jump ship...
haven’t we also seen/read a million things about how loyal he is, and how much he values what’s comfortable and people that he knows and trusts?
(I was mostly joking by pulling that quote, but of course that is what stuck out to me, particularly in light of the events of the last day and a half)
We've also
read a lot about how he’d never come here, how he’d never make it as an NBA player, how he couldn’t shoot or defend . . .

Its just something I noticed in all of his interviews.

Heh.
When you play back-to-back-to-back like we’re doing in this shortened season, you have to conserve your legs, and get ready more quickly.
How’s that working out for you, kid? Get this man some help! Luke! Get back here! JJ! On your feet!

Still can't find that online
And its a – wait for it – shame too, constantly hearing good things about that movie and Fossbender’s penis.
I’m with Keelhaul though, The Guard. Best movie I seen this year.
