Off topic - Shaq on NBA on TNT
Anyone else feel like Shaq has ruined Inside the NBA? His takes are moronic, he regularly picks fights with Barkley, and he's just as immature as ever. He, again, said that Bynum is the best C in the league, and is just not fun to listen to at all. In fact, he just pisses me off. Barkley seems to feel the same way, as every week he is getting noticeably more frustrated with the big doofus.
Anyone else feel this way about Shaq's part on NBA on TNT this year?

This has always...
Been Shaq’s M.O. He took the immature, ‘troll’ stance in the Kobe battle and now he takes it with Howard. Obviously he has always wanted to be more of a star than someone who is great. The majority of America knows little about real basketball and it will sell ratings. Its really sad because if Shaq would have been more motivated to be a great player he would never have had to talk off of the court. He would have been better than Kobe and better than Howard. He is still better than Howard but not for long.
Instead Shaq spent every offseason making, Rap videos, movies, video games and everything else. Kobe spent every offseason working on his game. Neither have great personalities but one will go down as top 10 ever.

speaking of people who don't know basketball...
haha you’re the one talking crap about Shaq the player. I guess since he lacked motivation he was only able to become a top 5 center of all-time…what a waste! haha
anyone who doesn’t recognize shaq as one of the best players of all-time knows NOTHING about basketball. study up boyyy!
it’s probably not your fault though, you’ve probably only been watching bball for the past 4 or 5 years.
I think he did not.
I just said Shaq wasn’t a top ten player because he never worked hard. It’s ok though, some people just like to flame and rant.

Just my opinion obvioiusly...
1. Jordan
2. Magic
3. Russel
4. Bird
5. Chamberlain
6. Kareem
7. Kobe
8. Duncan
9.Hakeem
10. Oscar
I think I could add a few more too. But those are my top 10

thats a fine list.
but what makes wilt any better than shaq? he won 2 titles (one as THE man). if you’re going to mark down shaq for not winning enough, then wilt should be docked even more!
and what makes duncan better than shaq? they won the same number of titles, but shaq put up much better numbers. timmy’s the man, but i’d give the nod to shaq on this one.
and oscar robertson was great too, but again, he won only 1 title. if shaq is getting crap for winning only 4(which is ridiculous btw) then oscar shouldn’t be above the diesel powered center.
When...
did I say it had to do with titles? Also it is my opinion. Take it or leave it but please next time refrain from calling me a basketball newb.
Wilt was a lot like shaq. Very dominant but not to his full potential. He also was concerned with image.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 12:59 PM CST via Android app up reply actions
meet his full potential? what does that mean? shaq's numbers are ridiculous!
now i’m really wondering how you rank shaq so low.
its not just me...
look at most expert rankings and basketball history books. shaq is almost always between 10-15.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 1:06 PM CST via Android app up reply actions
i just looked at a couple links on google
and he was top 10 in every one, including #4 in slam magazine.
which expert rankings are you talking about?
i just read the bill simmons explanation for ranking shaq at #12 in his book. its very biased, to say the least. maybe thats what you’re going off of?
He has 4 rings
And was the most physically dominant player to ever play the game. Being one of the greatest to ever play is not realizing potential? Show some respect!
See, this is why he’s so defensive. Average fans don’t remember how great he was. He doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Ugh…ignorance!
And really? Comparing Howard to shaq is laughable. C’mon man!!
by forget on Jan 27, 2012 10:10 AM CST via mobile up reply actions
I never said...
he was worse than Howard. Just that he never reached his potential cause he is more concerned with image than winning.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 11:16 AM CST up reply actions
You implied that Howard will be better than shaq when it's all said and done.
Lol. Like I said, just comparing the two is laughable
by forget on Jan 27, 2012 12:16 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
my point is
he could have had several (many?) more rings if he chose. Absolutely dominant big man in the game for a long time but left opportunity on the table.
Could he?
He made the finals 6 times, won 4. How many other players have been to the finals 6 times? Not many.
So let’s look at the finals he lost, and if there was something more ur could’ve done. He lost to the rockets in the mid 1990’s. There was no way the magic could’ve beat them. Then he lost to the pistons in 04. Injuries killed the lakers that season.
When else could he have won? Haha I’m interested to see what u think.

Consistently adding an "lol" or "haha" does not make people take you seriously.
No matter how correct your argument may or may not be.
(ftr, I agree with you. and, right now, that embarrasses me.)

ya you're right
the delivery of my ideas is pretty bad, i guess i gotta be more diplomatic about this..
I really don't feel like arguing...
but by your logic Robert Horry is the best player of our time.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 1:14 PM CST via Android app up reply actions
i'm trying to appeal to his logic.
he was saying shaq should have won more titles. i was trying to show him that it wasn’t that simple
The logic is it's his opinion.
BBB doesn’t like (downgrades) Shaq because he was lazy and didn’t fulfill his potential, it has nothing to do with titles and little to do with stats. By his LOGIC, I would assume BBB doesn’t consider Iverson a premier PG due to his thoughts on practice.
Agreed.
Iverson is top 5 all time in exiting to watch. Great PGs? No. He isnt even top ten for me.

On the other hand.
A guy like Duncan gets to be higher because he put in his work all the time. Also, Kobe Bryant may be very unlikable as a person but as a player you can not knock him for his work ethic. He is one of the hardest working ever. I really respect guys like that.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 2:13 PM CST up reply actions
so he gets bumped down because he had fun?
even though his results are just as good, if not better than those other guys?
i think if you focus on what he accomplished, rather than what he didn’t, you’d be able to see how great he really was.
An opinion sir.
If we had a stat that personified greatness then this would be settled. We dont. It comes down to opinions. I really value guys that worked hard and brought alot to their teams. Guys that did it on will power. I think Shaq is worse not because he didnt do good things but because he was lazy. He fell so short of what he could have been. If he worked harder and was actually in shape(like he was coming out of college) and would have worked on his shot and free throws, he would have been a 35-40 point a night guy and a 14-18 rebounds along with the 3-4 blocks that he averaged one season. That would have been him every season. I really dont rate him high because he didnt work hard.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 2:24 PM CST up reply actions
oh, so that list is of the top players that you like?
ok i get it now.
its the list..
of the players I think are best.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 2:41 PM CST via Android app up reply actions
if you're taking off-court laziness into account
then how can that be a good list? would you think any less of Kobe as a player because he was accused of rape? or kris humphries because he did that marriage with the kardashian? if they still get results, why would that matter?
Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs while drinking and eating during games, does that diminish what he accomplished?
again, its best to evaluate a player based on what he accomplished.
To me...
yes. off court work ethic matter. I’m not a fan of bryant as a person but as a player he is one of the hardest working ever. I give him credit for that.
by bringbackbrewer on Jan 27, 2012 3:16 PM CST via Android app up reply actions
fulfill his potential in what way then?
i don’t get why you’re bumping him down.
Regardless, the whole "RINGS!!!" argument is absolutely stupid when comparing players
Really, its illogical. How many titles do you think Shaq would have won as THE MAN on ORL?
Winning championships has far too many variables to even be considered for comparing players.
Also, Duncan was a better defender.

For the record, I mostly agree with you on Shaq's career
but the line about the Rockets is ridiculous. “No way” the could have won? The Magic won 57 games. The Rockets won 47. The Magic were 1st in the East, the Rockets 6th in the west. In the regular season matchups the Magic won by 23, and by 11. There were many ways the Magic could have won.
If you’re saying “no way” as in “no way Shaq could have stopped Hakeem” then you’re probably right. He was a man possessed in those playoffs, but don’t imply the Rockets were a better team before June than the Magic.
Clyde and Otis were traded for each other
When you combine each’s games played w the Rockets, it adds up to 71.

Kobe made a rap album
never heard it, but I remember he did.
Plus, Shaq Fu wasn’t the worst CD ever.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
Kobe did indeed rap.
I have heard it, and it is on Youtube.

WOW
Shaq-fu lacked motivation indeed! I mean the guy played 17 seasons as a 7’ 330lbs human being, won 4 championships, and completely re-revolutionalized the Center position. How can you say that this man could have been any better than he actually was? With the type of punishment he took for 17 seasons, a man that size should be bedridden at this point. He probably just rapped and stuff during the offseason, and ate tons of junk food, and bitched about Kobe constatly. 17 season! This man had a mismatch everytime he was on the floor, do you have any idea what opposing players do when there is a mismatch? Do you know what kind of stuff refs allow when there is a mismatch? I’m assuiming you have never played basketball before, because anyone who has would never make this statement. This whole post is preposterous from word 1, to your name. Shaq is the greatest center to play the game EVER! I understand the argument for Russel and Chamberlain, but come on, those guys had zero competition comapred to Shaq. All three of these guys were the most dominant players ever when it comes to size, I personally would have loved to see Russel and Wilt go against the guys Shaq had to go against. Lastly, please never bring Brewer back!
This is dumb
Humans have not evolved to be magically more physically gifted over a 50 year period. Sure, throw Shaq from now back in the league back then and he would dominate, but that comparison isn’t fair. You have to consider players’ dominance in their respective eras. Wilt/Russel did not have the luxury of today’s training/nutrition/knowledge.
Shaq is certainly one of the best C’s of all time, but I think in terms of pure dominance Wilt was much more gifted, and Russel was more gifted defensively.

idk how i missed this.
i agree, except for the Shaq being the best center of all time. i’d put him 3rd behind russell and kareem.
Dream and Wilt are still ahead of Shaq.
Shaq was never the defender he could’ve been.

Tell me...
one thing that shaq improved at since his rookie season in a significant way… conversation done. He didn’t work hard. He was great but not as great as he could be.

I hate Shaq,
But Howard better than Shaq? Really????
by Bad News Wolves on Jan 29, 2012 2:22 AM CST up reply actions
I agree with this post
His interviews always had the potential to be funny, but now we’re hoping for him to add intelligence. He was a smart player, but his ego is getting in the way of actually saying intelligent things. Who’d have thought the hall of famer with 0 rings on the set has less insecurities than the guy with 4?

I don't want to pile on TOO bad
But I’ve never found him entertaining or funny.
That show wasn’t broke. Why try to fix it?

Barkley runs circles around him...
I’ve never been too impressed with Shaq’s personality outside of his practical jokes.
by LosAngelesTWolf on Jan 26, 2012 11:03 PM CST reply actions
Barkley speaks to the fans
but you get the feeling that Shaq’s doing inside jokes for NBA insiders, jokes the rest of us aren’t meant to get.
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
i think he's a funny guy.
people feel/felt the same way about barkley. barkley would do the same things, he would argue with kenny smith all of the time, and make comments that weren’t too popular. haha its the same show, they just added one of the best players of all time to their crew. i like it.
Enjoyed his years in Phoenix before he stole Nash's idea and bolted?
Shaq is not really funny, imo. Yeah I guess in 10 second interviews he is, but not on a show. He is immature and seems to be insecure as well. Tonight, he went from comparing Dwight and Bynum, to comparing himself to other greats like Barkley, Duncan, David Robinson, and others. It was ridiculous and he only brought up the argument to prop himself up.
Shaq is still too immature and too close to the game to be making any comments; when he does make comments they seem to lack any actual substance.
On Barkley, his opinions are usually spot on.

Barkley makes the show relevant
You know, he can be an idiot, but he is a likeable character and doesn’t do this alpha male shit Shaq does in front of cameras. Where Shaq is dominant, blunt and empty-headed, Barkley is just simply weird in a very funny way. Barkley is a funny, very grown-up man.
It's definitely made Inside worse
It really didn’t need the addition
T'Wolves 2012: Where A Is For Intangibles
Yeah that was good on him, and he definitely cooled down the Shaqness in the second half of the night

The biggest problem: they had someone better
Chris Webber was great on that show, and now, he has to do NBATV with guys like Dennis Scott and the comatose Penny Hardaway. (Greg Anthony, Steve Smith, and Brent Barry are good on there, though). He knew what he was talking about and had a good dynamic with Chuck.
