Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

Martell Webster/Brad Miller 2012 Debut Tonight

Here's the news: Shooting guard Martell Webster and center Brad Miller are available to play tonight. Point guard Luke Ridnour, who missed the Dallas game with a sore knee, is also ready to return. Michael Beasley (mid-foot sprain) will be a game-time decision. J.J. Barea (hamstring) and Malcolm Lee (knee) are both out.

Full Story

Star-divide

So as much crap as Miller and (not as much) Webster has gotten, it legitimately feels like we are acquiring new players via a trade. Since this is the first time we may have a winner on our hands in a long while, how does everyone think their return will be?

Also, when Beasley/Barea/Lee come back, it will still be odd seeing our True Top 8-9 on the court right away. Will our potential be realized when everyone is back?

Thoughts on everything? Thanks for reading!

seems like we get really burnt on these long stretches of play

however this week hasn’t been to bad in terms of game and practice…hopefully a win tonight is in the cards

agreed, but every team in the league is being devastated by injuries.. just go down the list and you will see what this compressed season with very little training camp has done to the players..

These are some of the notable injuries I can think of off the top of my head
Miami – No Wade for numerous games, LBJ already hurt this season
NY Knicks – Carmelo now injured, no Baron Davis (back injury before the season)
Milwaukee – Bogut out for the season more than likely
San Antonio – Ginobli out for numerous games
Dallas – Dirk out for numerous games
Portland – Camby injured for numerous games
LA Lakers – Kobe’s wrist injury (still playing obviously)
LA Clippers – Paul and Butler have both missed games
GS Warriors – Curry has missed numerous games
Toronto – Bargnani now set to miss numerous games
Charlotte – Henderson and DJ Augustin
NO – Gordon has barely played
MN – Barea, Miller, Webster, Beasley, Lee and Ridnour have all missed games

and the list goes on and on and on..

Actually, as I compiled this list it struck me that teams like Houston and OKC have been relatively healthy which may explain their success IN PART.

My fantasy team is in pain too

I have Gordon/Curry/Deng.

But it is true that a lot of teams are hit with this bug so it will definitely be an interesting year and we need to know that unless we have a New Orleans looking record at 3-15, we will not be out of the playoff run.

Our team has a good chance to knock out these “older” teams like Dallas/LAL/SA in a compressed season.

Yup

Gordon, CP3, and Bargnani on mine

I am so stoked to see all of our players healthy to see what we really have under RA..

this includes Beasley who I continue to contend is our potential answer at the 3. At the least I will not run him out of town until he has had 20-30 games under RA and playing along side Love and Rubio together. I believe in Beas.

I'm sad I'm going to be travelling tonight

I hope the writeup is good because I would love to see Martel + Miller play. Darko always seems to be good darko against SA too so I’m hoping for a convincing win.

I am hoping that

I will be able to catch the last quarter or so, I too won’t be at home for most of the night. Hopefully I come home to some good news.

I am pretty happy to see these two play - especially Webster

In the strib blog, Adelman didn’t sound too excited. Has to figure out a rotation w/no practice time to try guys together. Could be a bit ragged.

Also, Kahn said in the interview yesterday that Lee will likely be cleared to play at the end of the month and spend at least 2 games at Sioux Falls. So we’ll hopefully see him early February.

What crap has Miller gotten?

He’s a player/coach at this point of his career. Emphasis on the coach.

Ha I suppose

Some people aren’t happy with him appearing on the court. Maybe I only saw one comment but it still counts, dammit!

I'm looking forward to Miller

Something I was going to make into a fan post this weekend (but will try to get up before the game) is that the rumors of Miller’s demise are greatly exaggerated.

Interesting to see Miller play, don't think I've ever seen him on court.

I’m excited to see what Super Cool and Webster are gonna do.

Is Miller better than Pek or Darko?

I haven’t seen him play in a long time

90% of the crap I say on here is sarcastic

He was

Pek is playing pretty well though idk

Miller at least looks 100% more confident in his abilities

And will go toe to toe with guys instead of looking like Andre the Giant seeing a snake.

by y2jayjk on Jan 27, 2012 2:49 PM CST up reply actions

Looking at Miller's career numbers

his play hasn’t dropped off as much as you might expect (at least in terms of ws/48). That said, I haven’t really seen much of him in the last few years. I think he’d be a lot more consistent than Darko, but I wonder how many minutes per game he’ll really be able to play.

by TenderWolf on Jan 27, 2012 2:51 PM CST up reply actions

Miller

is a bigger / slower version of Brian Cardinal aka “The Janitor”

by mnsportsjunkie on Jan 27, 2012 2:49 PM CST reply actions

Miller

Will not make much of an impact. Pek & Milicic combo is probably better at this point in their careers.

by GritNGrind on Jan 27, 2012 2:51 PM CST reply actions

It depends on what kind of shape Miller is in

Miller is better on offense than Darko and turns it over less. We could stand to have a little more offense and fewer turnovers. Darko is probably better on defense and you can’t really say no when Darko is having one of his good moments (like the Clippers game or the 7 block game against Dallas). If I’m the coach I’d be awfully tempted to give Darko’s minutes to Miller in games where Darko doesn’t seem too motivated.

by TenderWolf on Jan 27, 2012 3:03 PM CST up reply actions

Miller

absolutely could make an impact. There are times where it is very helpful to have an extra 6 fouls available at the post and of course he can be helpful during those times. He also probabl is a big help in other ways, remember Rubio mentioned him and Love as his favorite guys on the team plus you have his veteran leadership.

by Ineffable on Jan 27, 2012 5:08 PM CST up reply actions

Miller is a pretty bad-ass facilitator as well..

last season he was averaging 5 assists per 36. Between Miller, Darko, and Pek we have 3 completely different skill-sets at center which is pretty fun.

I am totally with you on this one. I was just giving a simplistic view on how he can help and you bring the icing.

by Ineffable on Jan 28, 2012 10:40 AM CST up reply actions

I'm glad you mentioned his passing

He can really be a standout playing passer out of the high post and knows Adelman’s offense extraordinarily well.

by JMGrady on Jan 28, 2012 2:20 PM CST up reply actions

I like Miller a lot, but

assuming anything of a nearly 36 year-old coming off microfracture surgery is not a good bet.

by Simitar on Jan 27, 2012 6:16 PM CST reply actions

27 year old

Miller would be amazing for this club
