HELP ME SEE THE LIGHT!

As a long time creeper, occasional poster, and frequent reader, I would really, really appreciate some insight on why insistence/infatuation on Nicholas Batum? I guess I haven't really seen the light yet. I get he is a solid role player on the Blazers, but he cannot get any burn there consistently. How much are we basing our love/lust for him on his potential? I have seen some people willing to trade DWill for him, or try to come up with some creative way to trade for him. Others are willing to wait until next years free agency for him as he is a RFA, and they are willing to give him a 4/48 contract! See that is the part I don't understand. How in the world is this guy even given a thought to be paid that much, let alone trade the #2 pick in this past years draft? Help me see the light, because I can't think that his "potential" warrants that much money or talent. When does the thinking along the lines of Beasley and Randolph come into play, when is it no longer "potential" and just flat out "can't put it together"? He's been in the league for over 3 years, and his career PER is 14.9, which is league average. Is league average really worth that much? I know our wings aren't league average, but I think our idea of what Batum is as a basketball player is really beyond what he has shown to be capable of. Give me your thoughts below on this or other acceptable players we should target. In a side note, I only have basic cable now, and don't get to see the Twolves much at all. I just want to say that I really enjoy the report cards of the game!
