Rubio in NBA.com poll
NBA.com is running a poll on who's the most exciting player in the NBA. The poll is a ways down on their front page. As you can see, Ricky is holding his own against LeBron and Derrick and needs your vote. Won't you help? You're already at your keyboard. Just click on the NBA.com link (there, I gave it to you again) and then scroll down until you see the poll in the middle of the page. Vote your conscience but be advised that I will know if you vote for anyone but Rubio and will rat you out in a heartbeat to the entire Canis Hoopus community. Group sessions and reeducation will follow.
Vote, reboot your computer and vote again.

This being an NBA.com poll
I have no clue how long it will stay up. I’m guessing that the people who run this horribly designed, never-lays-out-properly-in-any-of-my-browsers bullsh*t website let the polls run until they get the answer they want.
As of 9:30 am, Saturday, Jan 28:
Ricky Rubio, 28,756, 31%
LeBron James, 26,377, 29%
Derrick Rose, 19,174, 21%
Blake Griffin, 17,395, 19%
Unicorns f*cking rock.
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
17:24 in Madrid. Waking up with that poll on the screen and thinking I'm still dreaming
Magic unicorn: 31,038 >>> 31%
LBJ: 28,389 >>> 29%
Rose: 20,583 >>> 21%
Griffin: 18,618 >>> 19%
Ricky is the most exciting to watch because he makes everyone play better. So the issue here is:
¿Which NBA team is more exciting to watch?
The Wolves with Ricky on the floor.

Espn quote on Rubio:
“Don’t get me wrong: Rubio is good. He’s exciting. But he’s in the right system because [Rick] Adelman lets guys make reads and be intuitive. Rubio is so smart and mature that he can handle that. But I still worry that he’s going to be like a major league pitcher and that [teams] will start to figure him out after they’ve seen him once.”

Rubio as all-star player next year
I think nobody really expected RR to start this way in his first year among the best basketball players of the planet. As spaniard, I feel so proud of this kid and whatever, but what it is kinda amazing is things like this poll, if we are fairly talking, RR can’t be compared to LJ or DRose as the most funniest players to see. I think you guys are overreacting to a" new" “concept of bastketball” (stockton left the NBA in 2003) because of the miracles made by a firstpass pointguard. As he is a rookie, the sensation is even more impressive, but let me say that from an outsider point of view, Dwade or LJ plays like an angels, and RR is still buying his ticket for the heaven….

Our little kid is 78th in PER, but yeah, I'll jump aboard.
He is damn exciting – and he is probably better at being a coach on the floor better than anyone I’ve seen since Magic Johnson – and like Magic, he makes his teammates better than they would be if he wasn’t around. Much of the improvement of individual players on our team can be laid at the doorstep of Ricky Rubio, who sets their table. He knows where each guy is most effective, he finds them when they’re in their ‘spots’, he knows when you’ve been naughty, and he knows when you’ve been good. He just plays this game like the blind kid in Pinball Wizard. He’s so intuitive that he has a 3D game plan visualized in his brain and he executes it. He’s the master controller – and the best thing is, is that he’s going to get better because he’s only 21 and has played NBA ball only 19 games !!!! He makes basketball as much fun for the intellectual observer, who knows all of the fine points of basketball, as for as the the casual sports fan. It’s not easy to get a number cruncher excited, a nerdballer orgasmic. This kid does it.
Many of the things Rubio does are unquantifiable. That's where he enthralls the nerdballers.
Their numbers tell them nothing. They have to throw them out the window and just enjoy basketball.
you mean he makes the team works in one direction and all together
But it is still kinda funny because we don’t give enough credit to RA, he is the person who is working on the winner mentality of the wolves troops.
by Anthony Real Thing on Jan 28, 2012 3:32 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
Very true, and couple that with...
the fact that Rubio would rather “Make two people happy than one” and you have a rare thing that stats have a hard time capturing
by Timberwolf i.e. Albatross on Jan 28, 2012 3:35 PM CST up reply actions
then please triple that
With the fact that KL has signed a four-year extension instead of five because he is so honest to accept that he is not longer the franchise player of the Minn Wolves..;-).
I am serious now, the credit should go to RA!
by Anthony Real Thing on Jan 28, 2012 3:49 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
How about team record?
I’m oversimplifying a bit, but worth noting…
Wolves record when Ricky starts… 5-3
Wolves record when he doesn’t… 4-7
Those are the stats that count with a player like him.
Guys like Kidd, Nash, and Rubio simply help their teams win, regardless of the stat line. Guys like Marbury always hurt his teams, regardless of their numbers.
I though
The wolves record when RR stars was 5-2 or 6-2…
Do you think we will be capable to beat the lakers tomorrow???

our little ruby
First post from a born-in-belgium-moved-to-spain-studied-in-the-us-and-moved-back-to-belgium! after reading this blog for so long i decided to express my opinion. I like Ricky, and i have seen him since he was 14 or so, i guess you all have watched his 51pts-24reb-12as-7st performance when he was 15@ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB3Jrswj4x0..but i guess you havent watched his development in spain as much as i have done. So basically, the guy can do whatever he wants and has a magical gift to make fantastic plays. He is/was/continues to be a great defender but lacks some quickness which he compensates with intelligence. However, players in spain started getting used to his presence and they literally gave him 2 (metres) to shoot (which he could not take with navarro and other 5 better shooters on his team and being only 20) and it resulted well as his confidence was ruined thanks to spanish media. But the kid is strong and has really improved since minny drafted him, his shot, control of tempo as well as his static offense have all improved. Overall, i think his latest euro stats were so low because of barcelona playing style. Their offense was designed for a scoring sg (navarro, ingles, & previously basile) and ricky was not better than Sada (if ridnour leaves i would get him, he is a more consistent version of rudy fernandez but in pg) at keeping the ball inbounds ,which was the only purpose of the pg in barcelona’s offense, so he didnt play that much. It was a bit bad structured for my first comment but anyway. And btw , spaniards didnt start to vote till around 5 hours ago whena newspaper published the first results, because they have a NBA españa thingy so only a few people go on the us site :)

Marc Stein's (ESPN) scouting report appears to be out of reality
“Until he’s (Rubio) more confident knocking down outside shots, then Kyrie is clearly ahead of him, because Kyrie is a better defender and a better outside shooter. He’s not as in tune running his team as Rubio, but he can shoot, he can drive, he can defend. He values the ball and he’s going to get a better feel as he gets older.”
Briefly, Marc Stein thinks that:
1) Ricky can’t shoot.
2) Ricky can’t drive.
3) Ricky can’t defend.
Did Stein watch the last 3 Wolves’ games?
Ricky is a top3 PG defender in the NBA (e. g., stealing and forcing offensive fouls).
by LobosfromMadrid on Jan 28, 2012 4:24 PM CST reply actions
To be fair to Stein,
that quote comes from an anonymous scout—not Stein himself. It is, as you point out, way off base, but whatever.

in Catalona, a magical part of Spain where Lost Boys go to collect teddy bears.

That is awesome! I always think that Target Center is chanting RU FI OHHHH

I like weird players
I mean, it’s great to have good players, but if they’re also weird, that’s unbeatable. And if I have to choose I would go for a gang of weirdoes who manage to get the ball into the hoop after all kind of miraculous but beautiful nonsense than a perfectly tuned orchestra of gifted and coordinated athletes.
So I’m totally into the Pekovic craziness. If there was a TV channel 24h following his life I would watch him even sleeping. He probably has devastating dreams, he most certainly tears raw meat into pieces to mix with the breakfast milk, but something tells me he also carves his own ornamented musical instruments out of wood and in the end of the day holds a baby into his arms and cries while whispering an unintelligibly balkan ballad.
I liked the guy in Europe, but here is not the same, because most of the players are weird here. Many of them don’t really seem sportsmen at all, I love that.
When Spain faces USA at the Olympics and the camera goes all over the players during the national anthems it looks like a team from your post office is going to play against the Navy team.
Even the crowd is weird here. In the TV broadcast of the NBA games everything seems shinny, the people look happy in their seats, shaking hands, holding big beverages… but here in Europe, I don’t know, sometimes even it doesn’t seem to be enough light to play the game… If you watch footage of the Serbian sports halls you can shit your pants. Pekovic’s team pavillion in Belgrade, the mythical Pionir, had an specially amazing atmosphere of lunatics singing scary life threats… Besides, as we all speak different languages all the details and words around the games are really funny and weird.
So, I’m loving the Wolves so far because there is an exciting collection of weird players, sometimes it seems like only a machiavellian mind with a secret agenda could have built such a roster, but if this works it can be amazing. Actually it’s already starting to run, so the prize, the happiness will be double. I came following Ricky, who is good and weird at the same time (that obviously fascinates me) but I got Pekovic among others as a very nice present.
Even Kevin Love, who is a very good player, is atypical in today’s basketball, which makes him a rara avis too. He has such an orthodox game, he’s so correct, he seems such a nice pal, that all that complaining to the referees has no future coming from him. You just feel come on, what are you talking about, what is all this drama, you seem a perfect guy with a perfect life, get the hell out of here.
So be careful with all those trade deals you’re dreaming with, think it carefully, the weird level and balance is very extreme here. You’ve even mentioned Chris Kaman, that strange figure in motion might be too much, his style includes playing with executive socks and long underwear.

Brewer would not be allowed to touch the ball
while his feet were on the court If I were coaching. That would allow him to catch lobs, but really nothing else.
I think Ricky might have
made Corey’s career like Marbury made Garrett. Corey is what we’re hoping to get out of Wes.
Corey should have aspired to become Michael Cooper
And maybe he did. A lot of posters seemed to think he reached that point or someday would. Unfortunately he had no basketball skills.
We were hoping that Wes would be a horrendous offensive player?
I thought it was an accident.
NO FINAL TALLY
Went to get it from NBA.com and, unsurprisingly, the poll came down without warning and there’s no archive.
I’ve been online since 1991. My first website went up in 1995, my first blog in 1999. NBA.com’s homepage is the most cluttered POS I’ve ever seen in over twenty years online.
