Who's Going to the Lakers Game?
I am! Is anyone else going to be there? I wouldn't be against meeting up at Kieran's or 508 or something beforehand for a few minutes. Last year TimAllen, Dogpile, and I met at Kieran's and it was enjoyable, if brief. This time I'll be the bearded guy in the black Pek shirt who's laughing too loudly.
What will I be laughing about? The possibility of Pek tearing out Andrew Bynum's spine and using it as a jumprope, maybe. Or it could be the thought of Kobe running into a Pek screen and exploding. I'm not picky.
So. Who else is going? Feel like meeting up? Have any preferences on location?

I am going as well
And I will also be attending with my woman in our season ticket section 104.
I will also be there
in my season ticket in section 104
Damn you Minnesota people
Yes, it’s 75 and sunny in Phoenix but man how I would love to go to this game.
I'm stoked for you guys... I'm in the Bay Area as you probably know by now
and can’t be at the game, but I’m really excited for all of you. Cheer loudly on our behalf. I will be with you in spirit and have already allocated time to watch the game.
I'll be attending
with my older brother. Our seats are about ten rows back from where the former wrestler-governor’s seats used to be. It may sound strange, but the Lakers are not among my favorite teams to watch. I would rather watch OKC, Indiana or Denver this season.
The Lakers wouldn't be my first choice, either,
if not for the revenge-on-Bynum storyline. Really, I just realized on Friday night that I have all of my grading done and I don’t have a work conflict with job #2 on Sunday. So I bought a ticket. I’m in section 212. I don’t even really care where I’m sitting—I just want to be there.

had Rambis still been in charge...
…..Oh my god
Hopefully the Minnesota cheers will out “volume” the Lakers supporters this year?
Will be going with a couple friends
Section 110 I believe, 6th row.

Awesome.
I’m going to try to be in the area sometime between 4:30 and 5:00. I’m thinking I’ll head to Kieran’s (just because I’m familiar with it and I have issues). I’d be thrilled to see any or all of you before the game—even if it’s just for a moment or two. If someone prefers a different place, I can be convinced.
This is going to be great!

I could be convinced to show up at Kieran's before the game.
I will most likely be going to the game with my friend, unless he’s still feeling too sick to get out and watch the Wolves handle the Lakers. If he does come with me we’ll most likely be wearing our matching black Love and Rubio jerseys.

Would love to
but I’m on call to try a new dish. The restaurant wanted me to do it last night, but I refused to leave, it being late in the 3d quarter.
Cook won’t be back until tomorrow, and I’m hoping I don’t miss too much of the first half while writing up a menu description for “green mango and crunchy anchovies salad.”
It’s a job. Someone has to do it. (Someone also has to reformat the menu insert, run a bunch of copies then take them to Kinko’s to get laminated.) Also, to the best of my knowledge, none of our Wolves eat Thai food.
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
Work is work.
I wouldn’t mind a job that included eating as part of my primary duties.

Completely sight unseen
today I bought the first two seasons of Breaking Bad and the first season of Community. Both series have been so well endorsed here I figured there was little chance I was going to epically fail.

And I know that's a Parks and Rec guy,
but it reminded me of how little TV I watch.

I was late on Parks
And worst decision I had ever made. Community became almost irrelevant after Parks (not that I don’t enjoy Community as well)
Breaking Bad is definitely a winner too.
I'm in the middle of season 3 of breaking bad
great stuff, and it has gotten a little better every season
enjoy the game!!
Just watched the 1st 4 of the 2nd year last night on DVD
I love that series, so does my wife.
It’s not just the premise, I like what it says about the USA at this time. I also love the photography, the acting, the scriptwriting.
We exist with only antenna for TV, so I miss a lot of stuff on TV — intentionally. I don’t want to waste my time watching dramas when I can be living one instead. But Breaking Bad is worth it. I also get to skip all the commercials, which minimizes the brain cell damage.
Section 111
Once-in-a-lifetime (thus far) lower bowl opportunity for me. I can’t wait!

Agreed.
Every time I read it I hear Trent in my head.
Random fact. I was in Minneapolis one day and bumped into Trent Tucker. I was startled, because I forgot that he had been an NBA player, so his height startled me (he’s about 6’4" and I’m only 6’2") so I looked up at him and said, “You’re Trent Tucker!” And he said, “Yep.” He looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there, so I said, “You’re great!” and I scurried away.

Those awkward celebrity encounters
alwaysencounters always put me in deep thought mode. I tend to react like you did with Double T or I pretend that I don’t know the celebrity is a celebrity and treat them like an anonymous Joe.
It always makes me shake my head when I see people approach celebs and try to strike up a conversation. They don’t know you, people. It’s the same thing as a random stranger trying to engage you in a conversation—annoying.
On the subject, I ran into Tom Hanks at a bar in Paris during the Viking’s epic loss to Falcons in the NFC champ game. The man was constantly swarmed with admirers and paparazzi. I felt bad for him.
He's Ricky Rubio. He’s not like anyone else.
Correction
It was Michael Keaton, not Tom Hanks. (I’m Batman. I’m Batman …)
They sometimes seem like the same actor to me.
He's Ricky Rubio. He’s not like anyone else.
Well,
they did both become very popular in the 80s playing goofballs. I can’t even imagine living that life. Yuck.

I used to work in downtown (circa 1998)
I spent a lot of time walking the skyways over lunch. And one day, passing through some department store, my friend and I saw Hakeem Olajuwan filing through a display of shirts, presumably looking for one in his size. My friend droped to a defensive stance about 10 feet away and exclaimed “HAKEEM!!!” as though he were a long-lost friend. The lack of alarm on the gentle giant’s face was a surely a testament to the crazy degree and breadth of public encounters he’d experienced to that point in his career.

My other celeb b-ball encounter
I was in the Tria clinic in Bloomington, waiting to have doctor take a look at a dislocated finger about five years ago when I heard a loud, familiar jawing about from around the corner. Around the corner – KG!!! Surrounded by a bevy of admiring nursing assistants. They were having him step onto a scale about five feet from me. When he stepped off I simply asked “KG, may I shake your hand?” and he obliged, “Absolutely, absolutely.”
For the various tales of assholery I’ve heard about the man since his departure, my encounter was a thoroughly wonderful one. And he seemed at that moment to be a man of the people, regaling the nurses and having a fine old time.

That was fun.
One of these days we’ll get a bunch of us there, but it’s nice to have another face to put to the moniker.
I owe you a beer, as well.
