I feel like i've come across as a bit of a buzzkill lately

I think I’m going to keep my miserable bastard nature in a room full of muffled, late night sobs where it belongs.

Only 17 minutes each for Love and Rubio. I expect 2 10 minute stretches for both in the second half and less time played by reserves.

eh, whatever

other than some ill-timed dumb long 2’s from Randolph in the fourth and Luke throughout the game, wolves’s execution was pretty good. Our D was decent; we just have no one who can guard Gasol or Bynum. Kobe was on like a Kobe — ain’t much we do about that other than lay him out flat (woulda been a good assignment for Wes — go knock out Kobe). Losing sucks but we didn’t lose because we didn’t care or played shitty or didn’t execute. We lost cuz we missed wide open shots, they made contested shots, and their big three were basically unguardable tonight.

their comeback and fight at the end

was very non-twinkie, unless twinkie means something I’m not familiar with. And yes, we shoulda made those shots. We shoulda shot better than under 40%, but we didn’t shoot that poorly because of shot selection or lack of effort. They gutted it out in the 3rd and 4th, but they lost. Much better effort than we woulda seen in any game in the last three years. We all woulda preferred a win, but if you can’t see the positives in this game, well, then go be pissed off and eat your twinkies (by the way, try freezing them — delicious).

We’ll get to .500 and we’ll get over it. And we’ll finish 9th in the west.

by monkeywolf on Jan 29, 2012 8:51 PM CST up reply actions

Everybody will be entertained because of the late run but they lost by coming out slow and then getting outplayed by the Laker bench in the 2nd when they ran out guys who nobody knows about.

Most posters talk about them as “we”.

Hard loss, hey?

by timmuggs on Jan 29, 2012 9:16 PM CST up reply actions

Why does this game mean more than the others?

Why not a road win over the defending champion on a night they got their rings? Or two beatdowns of the Spurs, who are better than the Lakers?

Just because of some mythical “aura” about L.A.? I mean I get that this is a disappointing loss, but it seems kind of arbitrary to declare THIS GAME as the one that mattered the most.

by LoveTo on Jan 29, 2012 9:24 PM CST up reply actions

They’ll probably get another chance to crack .500. Of course, this is the Western Conference, where you need to get to .600 just to make the 8th seed

technically, I'd say the Clips ESPN game was their statement game

I doubt nationally this will get much attention. People would’ve chalked it up to the Lakers struggling, patted Love and Rubio on the back, and moved on.

Beyond that, I don’t think we can really make a more meaningful statement that we did against the Clips (even with a .500 record, which I think is inevitable) until there’s a significant roster tweak. There’s just such a serious glass ceiling right now over this club, and over Rubio in particular, given the wings (and, aside from Pek’s recent carnage and the SuperDarko sighting, the centers). Rubio will go from All-Star to All-World when people start canning more than 50% of the shots he creates. Already, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, he’s basically turned Pek into the new Gortat…

by Dewmeister on Jan 29, 2012 8:48 PM CST up reply actions

The Lakers did their best to hand us this game. They went away from the post even though Gasol and Bynum were pretty much scoring at will and Pek was in foul trouble. Mike Brown defers way too much to Kobe.

by Vlade on Jan 29, 2012 9:35 PM CST up reply actions

Hard to swallow

Gasol was 11-15 FG, 6-6 FTM. Kobe was 14-29 and 5-9 from three. Wolves bench couldn’t hit an outside shot for 3 quarters. Rubio went 2-13. Just didn’t work tonight. The run was exciting, but just not enough.

by JMGrady on Jan 29, 2012 8:37 PM CST up reply actions

But his shot didn’t fall. Got burned on screens a few times by kobe, but can really drive to the hoop. Gotta give him some time to get back into game flow. I just wish his learning didn’t have to come at the expense of a w against the Fakers.

yeah,

Except for the come back run, it seems like we were sporting shots mostly from 15 and out,, we got fouls, but the only reason it was not totally embarrassing is that we had so many put backs… Which of course is a good skill to have. Wes Johnson still sucks. Rubio played his worst game. Beasley had his best game of the season. Horrible 1st half, the misses were brutal. Gasol was on at the beginning, then it was Kobe, then Bynum late. Bynum got pissed for the travel calls and refs also let the players play. Very physical game. Way too many Lakers fans.

Damn. Just checking in now,

having gotten back from my once-in-a-(my)-lifetime lower bowl seats. I was feeling really ripped off a little into the third, but the Wolves gave us a real treat with that huge 4th quarter run. Then – for a handful of seconds in the last minute, had us believing that some sort of transcendent Reggie Miller ending was about to transpire. Alas…did not. Haven’t checked the game stats yet, but it seemed like Pau didn’t miss all night. And we didn’t hit from 3 pt all night until the final 10 minutes or so. Wolves offensive looking a little raggedy, and open jumpers just missing left and right.

If Love had been ready for Ricky's pass in those last few seconds

we might all be singing in the streets. The fight at the end was admirable (but half of the crowd had left by then to beat traffic . . .)

Yep

I see now that our shooting display went beyond an anecdotal observance of putrid and was statistically near-historic. We can all talk about how we missed Darko’s length & mobility on defense and a competent 2/3, but if we just weren’t so dang OFF, things could’ve been different in this one.

That's just it.

If the shooting had been even decent the Wolves would have been coasting.

It's been a long time since a Wolves loss bummed me out so much.

So many years where I kind of expected them to lose. Not anymore. I wanted them to hit .500 so badly, especially against the Lakers. Gotta beat McHale and Houston tomorrow.

Looking at the box score (except fg%)

Its a miracle the Wolves lost that game.

The problem is trying to work all the new players in. That and I want Rubio playing with someone other than Ridnour.
