Yet another Spaniard
Hello from Madrid!
As a spanish NBA fan, I´ve always paid special attention to the teams that have some spanish players in their roster. Just their stats, some highlights, the occasional game, you know. When Pau Gasol got to the finals I cheered for him and everything, but not much more, and I am positive that when Pau leaves LA, I will lose all interest in the Lakers.
This is not the same.
First, I was "Hey, let´s check how is Ricky doing..."
Some days later I found this site, and LOVED it. The people, the jokes, just everything. I began to like the team, and got to know a little bit more about the players, and how bad things went the previous seasons, and so on.
Enter January: Something totally different. As in "Setting my alarm at 4.00 am just to watch the Wolves" different.
Man, I am ROOTING FOR THIS TEAM!!
You know, I´m a big fan of Real Madrid, and here everything is like "WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN-Opps a tie, OMG we didn´t win our 14th game in a row. Apocalypse!!"
SHIT. Utter, spoiled shit.
I really like the wolves. The feeling of being the underdog, pushing to the limit just to make the playoffs (Because we are going to make it). The joy of getting the win against all odds, turning the fans of the bigger teams mad because they lost to us. The hopes of getting the final pieces of the puzzle that makes us a contender.
Just everything is WAY more exciting.
So here I am. Tomorrow I have an exam, but sure as hell I´m watching tonight´s game, because the Wolves are really fun to watch, and I´ve never been so thrilled with a team like this before.
See you in the Game Threads!!

Beyond Loserville
I know Minnesotans have come to expect sports disaster, but what happens now that this team has grown beyond our borders in a significant way? Sure, there’s like 3 Darko fans from the Serbian woods, and a huddle of Pek fans at the internet cafe in Montenegro… but this Spanish influx is substantial.
The Wolves are no longer just a Minnesota team and we now share our squad with Spain. Might this fact just change our woebegone sports luck?

I hope so!
Who will be our Ernest Hemingway? I vote for TimAllen.

Tim lacks Ernest's efficiency of language.
And requires pictures to support his visceral understanding of agony.
The Rubio with his passing, I say nothing because it's crazy! As we enjoy!
You spelled that correctly.

Take very little you read here literally
Correct-a-mundo is double-hyphenated and usually comes with gratuitous punctuation, as in correct-a-mundo!!!
It’s one of those not so rare made-up English words that usually comes with an instructional pamphlet.
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
It's great to have the fans from
Spain, Britain , Belgium, etc on this blog! Lots of new outlooks and gobs of enthusiasm are a very welcome addition to the site. Welcome!!!!
Ricky is lobbing at an Ooptimal level!
I haven't seen Wim in a while . . .
not like PD’s absence, but it’s been a week or so. Maybe I just keep missing him.

HALA MADRID!!!
I’m a huge fan of Real. It pains me that Ricky came from Barca but he’s a Minnesotan now so it’s cool :) Welcome! Glad your here!

Welcome!
If the Wolves make the playoffs they have to give Ricky Rookie of the Year, Love MVP, Adelman Coach of the Year, and Kahn “Maybe Better than Isiah Thomas as GM” awards.

Another Spaniard
I am in your same situation hasdrubal, just changing Madrid for Barcelona supporter and tomorrows exam for doing nothing, far better isn’t it ?
I love what your are building in Minnesota, this team looks great right now. Hopefully with some additions (a solid Center, Marc Gasol is not affordable right now but he would be perfect) you will be a lock play off team for several years.
Saludos from spain!
Wouldn't it be great
If the Wolves played a couple of games in Spain next fall? The least they could do would be to play a game at 4:00am Central Standard Time so all of us could stay up and show our gratitude for Ricky Rubio and all things Spanish.
"pokin' the animals at the Canis Hoopus zoo"
I was thinking about this as well.
A few years back the wolves opened the season with back to back games against Sacramento in Tokyo (I think it was Tokyo).
We are ripe to open a season in Barcelona.
If this ever happens I hope we wait a few seasons so I can make it over and check the progress on the Sagrada de Familia. It’s been a few years.
The more Spanish fans the better. Welcome aboard.
Wasn't part of the original buyout package two years ago some "friendlies" with the Wolves?
Preseason games aren’t out of the question at all. Think David Stern would hate that idea?
"First, I'd like to blame the Lord for causing us to lose today."
I'd prefer a 3AM start so I could be to work on time
but it’s a very minor quibble….
It would be wonderful to have a game or two in Spain next year, so that the Wolves overseas fans could enjoy the unicorn playing with his new teammates live. Stern, make it happen!
Oh and while you are at it make my income swell enough to be able to attend the games!!!
Ricky is lobbing at an Ooptimal level!
How awesome would that be?
A three day trip to Spain to see some sights and to attend a Wolves game or two. I’m in. I’d sell a kidney.

Los Blancos
Why must they play so dirty? In all honesty I’m rooting for them to end Barcelona’s run, but its hard to really get behind them when they play so classless.
Not to make this a birthday quiz.
It's just Pepe
and frankly, Barcelona is every bit as classless. It’s just football (soccer) as a sport encourages that sort of thing, like flopping and attempts to discretely foul or hit other players.
And Lass, and Carvalho, and Arbeloa...
and… Xabi Alonso. What have they done with him? Disgusting. Arbeloa was such a finesse defense in my Deportivo. It’s creepy to se him now.
And Casillas is way out of hmself, moaning and crying like a baby. It was incredible to see haw in the 2ng leg of the Copa they harrased the ref even in the parking lot when they must be thankful for not being left with eight men in the field.
Barcelona has his share of such people, like Alves, but is far far away from that bunch that Mourino has brainwashed.
I hate that Kaka is on Real Madrid
Ronaldo is possibly my least favorite player and there are so many thugs on that team now. Kaka has been one of my favorite players but I wish he could have stayed in Italy or gone to Chelsea (i’m a big chelsea fan so of course i wanted him there). I am really loving to see Mata play though, such creativity and makes the right pass most of the time (reminds me of someone).
Real Madrid and Barcelona have their fair share of scumbags.
Best thing to do is to root for neither.
Welcome!
Bienvenidos a CanisHoopus! I really enjoyed your post. You totally understand how great it is to be a Timberwolves fan right now: the terrible last few years, being an underdog and small market team…
“Setting my alarm at 4.00 am just to watch the Wolves” different. This is an amazing line, and we’re glad to have you on board.
By the way, the Timberwolves were awful from 1989 to 1996 after we drafted Kevin Garnett. I remember having a similar excitement about making the playoffs for the first time. It was unbelievable!
*until 1996 after we drafted Kevin Garnett.
Not sure if that was clear with my wording before…
Almost.
