I have a feeling
Wolves are going to win
Joe Mauer grounded out to second
Bill Smith - Buy high, Hold high, Sell for a bag of chips
Don't think we could have played much worse...
and still be in the game. One thing for sure, Wes just ain’t gonna do it at the 2, 3 or wherever! Bease is gonna be Bease – he’s like a smaller Darrell Dawkins from the 70’s and 80’s – amazing physical gifts, totally awesome one moment, clueless the next.
We need a competent wing in the worst way…
"Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously."

Wes is a bust. They have to find some way to use him, or let him move on.
Maybe he can get a cameo at Occupy Minneapolis.
Beasle Bong
break

It sucks to see long and athletic on the opponents team....
I still believe the Pups will figure out that quick passes work better than lazy passes.
2012 the year of Twolves porcelain extraction?
They need to slow down and take care of the ball
they were throwing the balll all over the place
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
I respectfully disagree
I saw Memphis cutting off the obvious passing lanes because they could predict what the Wolve’s were going to run for an offense. If the team makes the quick decisive pass, the defense can’t react quickly enough. But that’s MHO.
2012 the year of Twolves porcelain extraction?
That was grim
Johnson awful. Beasley terrible. Love mediocre. Rubio more or less saved them, though even he had a couple of boneheaded plays. One thing: he needs to keep shooting the shots he’s taking. Another thing: go to their best action as much as possible in the 2nd half: Rubio-Love PnR.
The Wolves are like the worst meal you've ever had--terrible while you're eating it and even worse later.
Rubio was great
It also helped having Williams and Tolliver out there with him instead of Beas and Darko.
Just run
Rubio Ridnour Williams Love and Tolliver and get it over with
interesting rotation
2 pgs and 3 pfs. But if it works, it works.
Well, if we've played this badly
and are still only down by 6, that has to be a good sign for the second half…. right…?

Shooting 36% from the floor,
33% from three and 67% from the line.
Ten turnovers.
Rubio and Williams are the only two Wolves with assists.
There’s your game so far, folks.

How many teams wings in the NBA
if they replaced the Wolves wings would allow the Pups to finish .500 this year?
27? 28?
irrelevant
we’re finishing 63-3 this year even with these wings

I think Memphis has two or three pairs
that would be upgrades for us.

Thanks for correction. These terrible East teams
They all look the same
Welcome to Lob Tundra! -dan_the_man
The Knicks look different
They look like an experiment to find the worst possible combination of good players in the NBA. Down 12 to Charlotte? At MSG? Ouch.

I attribute that to the Battleship

The Nets are a mess
and they gave up 2 first round picks and a second I think to rent an old superstar

I'm watching that in my second window

Hide the children
the Heat are playing. Considering what they look like in most of their games…we either got lucky, or are very good. They are destroying people almost every night. Currently wrecking the Pacers. LeBron 19/9/6 in 23 minutes.
Yikes. Wade not even playing.

oh don't worry I have another 5
I think I can do 2-3 per quarter at this rate though
Might be an interesting test for Adelman
If they can make adjustments
The Wolves are like the worst meal you've ever had--terrible while you're eating it and even worse later.
I'll bet he feels like he has to be MacGyver with this roster
He’s got to make a solid team with Love, Rubio, some gum, a paper clip, and a half-empty can of Sprite.

These are games good teams find a way to win.
Play like trash for more than half the game but hang around enough to have a chance…put together a nice 6-8 minute stretch towards the end and win…
it’s what almost every decent team did against us last year (nothing like losing to the uninspired Lakers over and over)…
So what your saying is we need to do what the Bulls did to the Hawks the other night? I believe we can do it!

Love will be angry in the 2nd half my friends, like an old man trying to return soup at a deli!

Give Memphis some credit...
They are really freaking active on the defensive end. Contesting everything, denying passing lanes. A lot of our poor play is due to this.
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
true
They really deny and make everything hard. Rubio has to get into the lane to make the half court offense work against these guys.

Another Darko Love rebound!
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
LOve has to catch that trailing break pass ready to shoot the three
also another Darko assist
also a great look by Beasley twice in a row
btw, serious about that
Glasses are in the other room.
He caught it and passed it to beasley
he needs to catch that ball and fire 100% of the time. He’s simply the greatest trailing three point shooter in history and there isnt a better option in the Wolves offense
Love at worst is a garbageman
and I’m glad he has that skill.
Good hustle, Beas!

yeah, I was really hoping we'd snag him in the love/mayo trade
though to be fair, if that had happened the universe might have exploded due to the lopsidedness of the trade
In Spain the rumors were
Rudy Fernández and Marc for the Wolves to help Ricky, but Marc has been in Memphis since he was a teenager (when Pau was drafted to Memphis, Marc went to high school there), and he feels at home there. Rudy played for Real MAdrid during the lockout and he was nearly rejecting to play in nba until the last moment (a Kirilenko case).

Welcome to Lob Tundra! -dan_the_man
I'm liking 3rd quarter Beas
defense and drives
No doubt
One of his old school double doubles. Not as noticeable as the others this year.
How nice is it
That nobody is even worried about his double-double streak anymore? We’re actually good enough to expect wins now.
Gary, you didn't kill your brother. Those gorillas did.
Beasley just can't finish in traffic
Its the strangest thing.
Love gets most of his rebounds
off teammate misses
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
It's so weird how you just see him appear and tap the ball in
You’d think Memphis would have 3 guys boxing him out
that's the dream
the one that doesn’t involve Ricky and a tub of Mayo anyway.
If he came off the bench and just rebounded and defended hard
He’d be somewhere north of completely useless.

uggggh
I love and hate Beasley, but he’s all there is unless Webster makes a miraculous recovery or someone uses a shrink ray on DWill

Atleast the long twos give Love a chance at a rebound. The drives and offensive foul just count as turnover.

Why do we have to wait for 10 minutes to see on the floor Ricky and DWill?
If the Grizz would have had Zbo and the perimeter shooters inspired this 3rd quarter would have been a mess for the Wolves.
He’s saving them for the 4th Quarter I think. Especially Ricky.

Seems like Rick is easing him into more minutes I think he’ll be starting sometime soon.
I also just saw your commercial for flex seats and stuff

I will be honest i respect RA as a coach
But i don’t really understand his subbing rotations, and the amount of mins he gives certain guys

He’s playing better D than Williams, so long as he doesn’t shoot

So players on the block can crash the lane at release but the shooter can’t until it hits the rim?
by domesticllama on Jan 4, 2012 9:29 PM CST up reply actions
Nvm
Answered by google.
c. A player who occupies a free throw lane space shall not touch the floor on or across the free throw lane line, nor shall any player ‘back out’ more than 3’ from the free throw lane line. A player who does not occupy a free throw lane space must remain behind the three-point line. This restriction applies until the ball leaves the free thrower’s hands.
d. The free throw shooter may not cross the plane of the free throw line until the ball touches the basket ring, backboard, or the free throw ends.

The idea was fine, but you can’t cross the line until the ball hits the rim.
He did

You can't stepforward before it hits the rim
don’t even have to land. Read something about Lebron’s new free throw shot being illegal. Can’t remember where.
Hmm.
Not sure if that posted right, but I read something about Lebron’s new FT shot being potentially illegal.
in theory you can't cross the plane of the ft line
in reality….yeah, right
He who rides a wolf cannot dismount.
Ugh
I swear it was on insider somewhere, but I can’t find it. Anyway, they brought up something about Shaq and how he did a similar thing but had to adjust since it got called in the playoffs once. Just think of adjusting your FT stroke in the playoffs.
No, that was legal.
The part where he stepped over the line wasn’t.
Well not really
If he had stayed behind the line until the ball hit the rim
He even missed the second shot
So that was all around ridiculous
Welcome to Lob Tundra! -dan_the_man
He intended to miss the 2nd FT
Shoulda given it to Love off the rim
Make your free throws. We'd be undefeated. That is all.

Tough game, good play in the second half
from the Wolves, just not enough…
2012 the year of Twolves porcelain extraction?
Eh. Well, at least they didn't give up.
If we could have played better at the start and hit some GODDAMN FREE THROWS, it might have been a win. You can’t come from behind in that sort of game without the misses from the opposition, though.
Welcome to Lob Tundra! -dan_the_man
we need more talent
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
I think this is the salient point to take home.
We know what we’re getting from Love and Rubio every night. But it’s not enough. It’s only when the Wolves get good production from the rest of the team do they look decent.
not how I saw it
I saw a team not ready to play for the first 20 points. Once they got rolling it was hard fought, but we lost.
by TO12 on Jan 4, 2012 9:47 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions
Mostly due to their catastrophic wing play
They need better players.

Turnovers galore, poor execution.
It will come. The only way to learn is make mistakes.
We're one competent SG
and 5 made free throws away from contending.
i'm encouraged
TOs will hopefully come down as the team gels, and free throws have to because these guys don’t suck at free throws this much. Also I thought that Luke play was pretty awesome, just a fraction away from working.
by juliancasablancas on Jan 4, 2012 9:33 PM CST reply actions
Agreed
Even with all the poor free throws and bad shooting… it was all the sloppy passes that killed them. That is a pretty easy fix.
re: Lukes missed free throw......
Not really any rule against intentionally missing. There are just a few key points to remember.
1) The ball must hit the rim to be in play. So, if you shoot it hard off the backboard and it comes back to you without hitting the rim, its a dead ball. As long as it hits the rim, if you can get your own rebound, its fair game.
2) Your feet do NOT have to remain planted, but you can NOT cross the free throw line until the ball hits the rim. As a result, you never see players jump while taking a free throw, as if their momentum took them forward at all and they landed even on the line, it would be a lane violation and the free throw would be a miss. By remaining planted you can be right behind the line with no worries of a lane violation. In some youth leagues you’ll see little kids take jumpers for their free throws, as they lack the strength to make a free throw while planted, but they have to jump straight up and sometimes are subject to lane violations
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
I intentionally tried what Luke did
In the first quarter of a rec league right after I subbed in. Having never played organized ball in my life I thought it would be a heady play. Everyone in the gym was yelling at me before the ref had time to blow this whistle. Apparently this violation is well known by most basketball players.
If Luke did that on purpose he should take a long, hard look at himself.
by fanslaststand on Jan 4, 2012 9:45 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
I'm sure you did it a little different than him...
First choice would have been a good high bounce off the rim, but one thing that hasn’t been pointed out is that it is really, really hard to get an offensive rebound on a ft. They already have you boxed out.
I actually thought it was a good play by Luke. As was pointed out, his only error was stepping over the line a bit quick.
by TO12 on Jan 4, 2012 9:58 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions
Actually you're right
I ripped it off the backboard. LOL
That’s why everyone noticed. But I also was charging full tilt right as I chucked it.
Luke’s play wasn’t nearly as bad as mine, actually.
by fanslaststand on Jan 4, 2012 10:14 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
Average to Slightly below average wing play...
and we are looking at a 3-3, 4-2 team at the very least. Wes and wellington is costing us wins…they really are bad
well, that's the fact of basketball
It is true, of course, but every team is x players at __ positions away from winning.
I know it’s early, but if the only discourse all season is the often recited SNP mantra ‘one above average wing…’ this site is going to get old quick.
Point made, everyone knows by now.

screw that
i want average play at every position + Love + Rubio. i.e. Get rid of the people that suck.
mayn we gotta hit our mafuckin free throws yall!
Memphis a rugged team doe iss all good Tony Allen mayn he went ham tanigh but he aint goin 8-8 ayday an we shudda wun if we juss hit our free throws im out see yall friday
MAYN HOL UP!
If he gets easy transition layups all night...
he’s going 8-8 every game.

Luke was way over the line before the ball hit the rim

Actually for the Wolves
that can be considered a good night at the office
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
Not with missed free throws too.
We shouldn’t win when we turn the ball over like this and miss free throws like this. After 6 games it appears we can actually win so long as we don’t do both. Which we consistently do.
600 N First Ave "like a Pirate's cove".
Yea exactly and oddly enough...
We played well defensively. Just gotta play smarter. This will be a good game to learn from. Hopefully we can come back and beat the Cavs.
by MychalShannon1 on Jan 4, 2012 9:42 PM CST up reply actions
Whose worse
Lazar, Flynn or Wes? I would rate Lazar highest of those just based on defense + low turnovers but the other two are so bad I have no idea how to sort it out.
Memphis matched up with us really, really well
That would be a hell of a 7 game series
now wouldn't that be fun
It would turn scrappy
by TO12 on Jan 4, 2012 10:03 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions
If they had ZBo...
it wouldn’t be much of a series.
Memphis may well be best in the West
They’re strong and tough, and have gained depth. At least there is a lot of room for improvement with the Wolves. I know that’s nothing new, but I think you can see it happening. We knew it couldn’t happen over night.
"pokin' the animals at the Canis Hoopus zoo"
not even close
Portland and OKC, followed by Denver and LAL (all predicated on upping Bynum’s usage) are pretty clearly the cream of the crop right now. I think LAC is going to gel as the season goes on and end up the fifth seed hopefully setting up an epic LA v LA showdown that the Clippers win.
Anthony Randolph
almost averaged a point per minute but he’ll probably only play another 8 against the Cavs.

Randolph vs. Hollins
Who is the ultimate skinny tall flailer????
Looking at the box score
The difference was mostly Tony Allen. We defended their main threats pretty well, and the turnover differential isn’t appalling by Wolves standards – in any case, we rebounded well enough to still have more attempts. The +/- on the starters vs the benches is unusually telling. Oh well. Onwards and upwards.
Welcome to Lob Tundra! -dan_the_man
The difference was Allen's four made free throws
by Last of the Irish Wolves on Jan 4, 2012 9:52 PM CST up reply actions
take your pick
poor free throw shooting
ridnour flagrant 2
bad toliver turnover
bad passing from everyone not named Rubio
Wes Johnson
it seemed like rick adelman gave on wesley tonight
i like how RIck Adelman is waiting for beasley to break out of this slump. i dont know why rick doesn’t make beasley recieve the ball mainly in the post where he only has to dribble once to get to the the basket. the Spurs game and this game were completely different in how Beas operated in the offense
Didn't read the whole thread
But I was upset that Kevin Love didn’t come out of the game for a few minutes in the middle of the second half. He looked SOOOOOOOO tired out there.

I still think that flagrant was a terrible call.
Allen was just trying to get a shot up so he flailed his body around.
It's hard to disagree with that
Ridnour didn’t do much more than run into Allen while he was elevating.
Can't help thinking we would have won with Barea in
Then again, if they had ZBo…
