Rookie Derrick Williams looks like a long-term keeper, too; in fact, he has outplayed starter Michael Beasley and could get his job at some point.

None of that comes as a big surprise, but this last, most important item is: He’s making shots. Rubio is at 52.6 percent from the field with a 63.4 TS%, nearly double what his translated European stats led us to expect from him.
I can predict the future using Norm Van Lier's crystal balls.

I 'm glad Hollinger likes our rookies
but I highly doubt Williams can defend SFs.
Can Beasley?

He's actually not been as bad this year
He’s better than last year which I attribute to the coaching/scheme change.
He's actually been really bad...
At SF, he’s giving up (PER48 min) 25 points (52%) and 9 rebounds. And a PER of 24.7.
And he’s doing that while putting up his own PER48 of 15 points (36%) and 5 rebounds. And a PER of 2.1 (Is that actually possible?)
We’re actually 11 points per 100 possessions worse when Beas is on the floor. 10.5 of that is attributed to defense.
ouch - damning stats
thanks, last year he just sagged into the paint and didn’t appear to care or pay attention, this year I’ve seen him chasing people around and trying to slow down Gay/Durant/Lebron. One possible explanation (if I understand the stats right) is that the team as a whole is playing better D making his lack of defense show up in the +/- stats.
His DRtg is way down
but so is pretty much everyone’s on the team.

We're definitely playing better team defense.
Thanks in large part to scrapping Rambis’ “double or triple everyone in the paint, even if its Earl Boykins, and force teams to make uncontested 3s to beat us” defense…
Keep in mind who he's guarded
Durant and LeBron in two out of 5 of those games. The “eye test” suggest he’s giving better effort and doing a lot less sagging. It was often his guy that would rip us for a 3-point fest (think Dorrell Wright).
His issue is just a terrible PPP. TO’s + no FTs + terrible shooting. It’s funny. I thought he’d come into the season better offensively, but with similar focus issues on D. It seems like it’s the opposite.

I don't know whether to find that more encouraging or discouraging
Gary, you didn't kill your brother. Those gorillas did.
I'm not feelin' DWill yet
Still too early to really tell. But yeah, there is this persistent myth since he was on the Wolves draft radar that DWill and Beasley are redundant and that DWill could step right in and play out on the wing. It took Adelman two days of camp to figure out that the guy is a PF. His real competition for minutes is Love and Tolliver. That’s not to say he couldn’t eventually become a SF, but I think he’d have to drop about 20 lbs and really focus on his mid-range game.
In the most simple manner
Watch the rubio-will allyoops..
Basic concept of teamwork. How many times have we seen beas waive off rubio pnr’s? Dwill wouldn’t. And his shot is great. I do think that dwill will be a very good player for quite some time… Beasley is struggling now, and if williams can get some PT he’s going to keep impressing.
I agree, he’s still a little slow for SF on both ends. He’s got an explosive and dynamic game but looks a little uncomfortable outside and even on PnR – I watched two particular PnR’s with Rubio and he made a poor screen and didn’t really roll or pop…just walked away.

Beasley was forced to play the 3
and was dog slow doing so with the Heat.
Williams is already a better rebounder so moving him to 4 will work, but he still has handles if you want to play him at the 3.
Beasley waving off PnR’s is just bonkers. He’s going to waive himself out of the league.

Where there is a D-Williams, there is a way
Repost that link everytime someone tries to trade him
What's wrong with the NBA is what's wrong with the USA: too much respect for superstars and not enough for working class heroes.
once again trading him for any joe schmoe isn't the point
but if you can get a legitimately good player at a position of need for one of your backup players you should do it. It’s like saying Orlando shouldn’t have traded Gortat because he’s a good player ignoring the fact that Howard plays 36 minutes per game. I’m not sure I agree with their return in that trade but holding onto him provided little value.
We're all on the same page with not trading him for a joe schmoe
where I disagree with people is the idea of trading him for an older guy who clearly isn’t an overall stud like Kevin Martin, nice player, good scorer…in the long run I think we loose on this trade though.
Eric Gordon, James Harden….if by God’s good grace a trade like this can happen I will sign off on it….
but I do think the disagreement is more so cause there are differing opinions on what we trade him for
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
Williams rules
correct draft pick.
Here’s my question for the CH community of people who don’t believe he can play 3:
Not that you all are wrong, and ESPN is right….but why is that the Hollinger’s and Russilo’s and Ford’s of the world and Ashburner’s etc all seem to believe Williams will be taking minutes away from Beasley at the 3 and be a long-term fixture there for the Wolves…yet here seems to be a pretty strong campaign that he can’t be that player?
Is it just cause we are closer to the situation? Or what? It seems funny to me to read professionals believe he is the long-term fit, especially a guy as respected as Hollinger, yet our own CH pro’s seem to strongly disagree with that.
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
I think it's because they don't think Love or Williams can play the 5
and at some point you have to get your best players on the court any way you.
