Michelobius Weekend Talker

This hasn't been done in a few weeks so I thought I would give it a try since I have a few things to talk about. I know we're still all aglow about Wednesday's game, and are excited for the second preseason game tonight, so here's something to talk about in the meantime!

1. What do you hope to see in tonight's game?

I think a lot of us were pretty excited to see AK roam on defense, Roy penetrate and score in the paint, Buddinger hit some threes, and Stiemsma with a monster block. More than anything, I think, it was just really refreshing to watch a team that knows what the hell they're doing out there. So what haven't you seen enough of?

2. Should we trade Nikola Pekovic?

Just kidding.

2. What are the odds Pek makes the All-Star team, and what would he have to do to get there?

At first I thought the Centers in the west were pretty much Dwight and Pek, but on closer inspection I realized he'd also have to beat out Greg Monroe, Marc Gasol, Al Jefferson, Anthony Davis, JaVale McGee, Andrew Bogut, Tim Duncan, DeMarcus Cousins, and DeAndre Jordan. I think Pek is obviously better than a lot of those, but my point is that's a lot of good centers in the Western Conference. So what kind of (ballpark) averages would we have to see from Pek to make him Dwight's backup? And just for fun, who would be the third center, if any? (EDIT: Greg Monroe plays for the Pistons in the East, that's my mistake. Move along, nothing to see here.)

3. Play any good games lately?

I can't be the only gamer on this site, so who else plays videogames, and which games have you been playing lately? I just finished Alan Wake, which was great, and I'm currently playing a few indie games until Assassin's Creed III comes out. Has anyone played Dishonored or XCOM? I've heard those are pretty good.

4. Optimism vs. Pessimism.

pastyearsears and I had kind of an interesting debate about optimism and what pessimists call "realism" with regards to human progress here (it starts with my comment entitled "What is this?" if it doesn't auto-direct there). I'm not sure what else I would add, but I feel like it's a topic that has some legs, so I thought I would open it up to further discussion. Where do you fall? Which perspective do you feel is more useful going forward?

5. VP Debate last night. Thoughts?

I can't remember a political debate being that entertaining. Joe Biden was so animated and hilarious. The back and forth was intense. The moderator moderated. It was exciting stuff. So what did you think?
