"Golden State Warriors" is one of the most boring names in sports. It's too vague, both in location - which state is golden, oh yeah, California; where do they play, oh yeah, Oakland - and in team moniker. 49ers, makes sense, has some local history flavor.
But when I think of NoCal, I don't think "warrior." Turns out it's another inherited name, like the NY-->SF Giants and the MPLS-->LA Lakers. The original franchise was the Philadelphia Warriors (not that Philly calls to mind warriors, either, especially since the city's name is Greek for "Loving Brother."
Anyway, the Timberwolves take on the Warriors tonight. The bay area is known musically for late 60's rock - Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, CCR, etc. - and R&B/Hip Hop such as En Vogue, MC Hammer, Sly Stone, Tupac, and more.
But the song representing Golden State for this game follows. Please listen to it, listen to the song for Minnesota, and vote for the better choice.
Vs.
Minnesota's own Bob Dylan singing with Johnny Cash about a girl from the "North Country," which could mean someplace in the UK but is equally applicable to the land of 10,000 lakes.
Vote early and vote often. I predict MN wins 82-79. My record: 1-1.
