Philly has contributed mightily to the nation's soundtrack--from Classical and Jazz to Doo-Wop and Teen Idols (it was the birthplace of Dick Clark's American Bandstand) on up to sweet, sweet Soul music and Hip-Hop. Hopefully all these genres and more (Philly is a hotbed for cool Indie Rock these days) will get a a shout out in the comment section.
For the challenge however, I'll pit defunct Twin City rockers Hockey Night vs. Philly's own Free Energy. Why these two, you ask? Well, how's this: two members from the MIN band went on to form the PHI one.
Hockey Night "For Guys Eyes Only"
Free Energy "Free Energy"
While Hockey Night borrowed liberally from Pavement, Free Energy raids 70's glammed up power pop right down to the cow bell. Neither band will win points on originality, but I give the nod to the local version. That's my prediction for match-up on the hardwoods, as well.
(Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes, but I was getting antsy...)
