What crossed my mind when I asked myself what music do I associate with Cleveland? Not a lot. One of America's great symphonies and the Rock HOF. But the more I thought, the more good artists I recalled. Then I realized I needed to expand my scope to include all of Ohio, given that the Cavs have been the only NBA team in the state since the Cincinnati Royals headed west in 1972, eventually ending up in Sacramento.
Maybe Cleveland and Ohio don't have a defining sound like Motown or dixieland jazz or grunge, but they have spawned a lot of excellent music across many genres. I won't take the low hanging fruit (nor the stuff on the higher branches) and write about it here, as I am certain the responses will cover all this and more.
I will, however, submit for your approval four fantastic television theme songs, two for Ohio and two for Minnesota.
"Who can turn the world on with just a smile?" Why, Ricky Rubio, of course.
PS - There is a Minnesota tie to WKRP: it was the vehicle that launched the career of Saint Paul's Loni Anderson.
