I really don't want to lose again... time to shut the 'hype machine' down
if at least for a game
which hype machine? the Unicorn's? the best PF in the game? Linsanity?
This is my opinion and does not constitute an endorsement, opinion or official position of the U.S. Army.

I hate all NY teams on principle,
and I detest Melo’s game (no impression of him as a person), but I love an underdog story (lifelong MN sports fan!). Plus, in interviews, Lin seems like a solid dude. Not gushing or too-cool-for-school. Just a player playing well. I love it.

Lin can play well on any other day, but I'm hoping he has a bad game today..
which I doubt he will. I think he’s going to give us trouble.

Look Guys
I appretiate it, but to PGs is the way of the future, and Wes is such a beast at defense that he should be starting. It’s not like I have any better options on our bench. I enjoy having a more talented bench than a lot of starting units in the league.
what in the world? you went to all the trouble of making an RA account to post this..

It's not that I hate him, I just like
all of our pgs more. He plays a little to well with Rubio if you know what I mean. And what’s the point of going undersized at shooting guard if I’m not gonna keep it consistant at the other positions too, you know?
Excellent.

Tonight's game (and thread)...
Is gonna be awesome. Not even sure we’ll win, but it’ll be entertaining as hell. Even Clyde as the “Analyst” can’t ruin this one.
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
In the last 4 games...
…we are 20-76 from 3Pt (26.3%). We would have to go 15-24 to get to a reasonable 35% for a 5 game streatch. Let’s hope that happens :)
"You know you're getting the silver medal, right?" Ricky to Kobe
A game against the famed...
“D’Antoni Defense” (translation: NONE) is exactly what we need.
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
Rubio-Lin
CAGE MATCH….two men enter, only one can leave.
my one complaint about Rubio is not his shooting
but the past few games I have seen him pass up one or two clean layups to try and feed someone on the other side of the hoop. I like the attitude but you just need to take the easy points in this league.
I have said this from day one..
Rubio has to take those open lay ups/open jumpers to keep the defense honest. The last two games teams have played him solely for his passing by jumping the passing lanes. It has resulted in numerous turnovers and made him look pedestrian. So I agree with you.
Maybe...
But Ricky has this habit…and I’ll call it habit…of getting other PG’s out of their games. Think RR brings it tonight…
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
I certainly hope so, but if I'm begin honest..
Ricky has played unbelievably poorly the last 2-3 games

more to the point why did ricky pass that
not sure he had a good shot but passing to Wes for a 3 ?
I see.. they are giving Lin the left hand.. Rubio is shading to the right..
but he can dribble with both
so he is getting in the lane too easily..
with that said it’s clear he’s the real deal.. he is a starting PG in this league
it's his dribble control I really like
He’s not like John Wall and guys like that who dribble right up to their chest. He plays nice and low which gives him great change of direction.

God
Adelman needs to simply this. Go to the post every time on offense until they start to pack the paint in.
Twolves didnt fully utilize Pek or Love as much as they should have. They need to do what Knicks are doing with Lin. They are just giving him the ball because that is what works for them, and they adjust when twolves defense adjust to lin.
they actually did double us quite often in the post

Lin certainly plays hard... and he certainly belongs out there
whether or not he can keep this up (month, season, career) should be fun to see.
I like Simmons' take:
Melo is simultaneously invoking the Ewing Theory for TWO different teams. Historic.
And with Stoudemire out...
The Knicks are pulling a “Double Ewing.” Which is probably a euphemisn for a threesome at the Gold Club…

We are extremely well positioned for the all-time TO record
Let’s go Wolves!!!!!
We have to go to the wing
and pass it into the post.
Why are we passing it into the post consistently from the top of the arch?
Its basic fundamental basketball. Give it to the wing, let him make the pass inside whether its bounce or up top. Pek is better with his back at an angle to the basket. instead of just parallel.
Derek Williams is dumb
One day he might learn that you can’t run over the player getting to the rim. Its almost as bad as Pek and 3 seconds last season.
And look what Pek is doing this season...
Get your complaint, and I agree. But next year, DWill is gonna start morphing into Shawn Kemp 2.0. We’ll wanna be there for that…

Think he's a great finisher
And that’s not going away.
exactly theres a reason why centers have high percentages, always around the rim
and so are half of his shots, if anything he will get more comfortable finishing in there

He was attacking the rim everytime and either getting to the line or setting guys up and not getting down on himself for going 0 for whatever it was. Hit a big shot and made a good d play at the end.

I wish him nothing but the best.
I actually think the Knicks have found
Several diamonds in the rough. Shumpert. Novak. Lin. Fields. Don’t know who their GM is now, but he’s made some great moves with the role players.
He'll do fine
As of right now, he is the Knicks biggest offensive threat. But with Carmelo Anthony and Stat, he wont have to be, he can just focus on setting those guy up
by Guess Who's Back? on Feb 11, 2012 9:41 PM CST up reply actions
Sounds good right?
But here’s what you miss. Both of those guys are ball-stopping, watch my ego trip guys. I can’t believe we lost to the absolute tosh that is your team tonight, but I’m certain we would have won with those two ball hogs in your lineup…
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
Amare will make the team better. He became “superstar” because of nash and the pick and roll in phoenix. it’s just a matter of spacing with tyson chandler on the knicks that could be an issue. Though stat can pick and pop while tyson can pretty much only roll to the basket.
Melo is a wild card (only question mark now that the Knicks actually have a point guard), but he is a very good spot up jump shooter. He’s been asked to be the guy to facilitate this year because the knicks haven’t had a point guard, but that’s not his game. He gives them another option offensively (post-up / iso) instead of basically only pick and rolls. Also, instead of Bill Walker shooting open shots, it would be Melo.
I think a lot of people are overacting to Stat, Melo, and the Knicks early struggles this year. Their offense really needed a point guard. Give them some games together with Lin and then make judgements on their offense.
Amare is the best pick and roll big in the game.
he’s not exactly a ball stopper. He played in PHX where everyone made the extra pass!
NY is going to be good. they have too much talent not to be. they now have a PG, which should pull everything together.
Knicks> Wolves, thats for damn sure
Yup
He is a good kid, I hope him the best, but NY is the worst market for a player like him. They should be happy to have him but I’m sure they’ll turn on him soon

by CoffeeJanitor on Feb 11, 2012 9:43 PM CST up reply actions
Why?
Why would they turn of him? He was a waiver pickup who was days away from getting released who has given the Knicks life by leading them to 5 straight wins. The kid clearly has talent and should be fine now that he has become the most beloved Knick in years

the 3 PG
lineup is built to get destroyed by semi-competent, reasonably tall wings.
Beasley or AR would have been better defensive players, that’s saying something.
Ridnour
is a matador, Barea is 5’10 and Rubio is a good defender, but he’s not going to single handedly make up for the gaping defensive holes that lineup presents.
and the offensive advantages of those three players are generally negated if there aren’t cutters going to the rim.
Yeah, but the real problem here is David Kahn.
He said “long and athletic”, but all I have to work with is these pgs. Wait…
Tough loss but hey,
did you guys see how hard Rubio, Barea, and Ridnour played together? I mean, I’ve got to go to that action more often, or at least find more ways to get the greatest decision maker on the team, Barea, the ball. Am I right?

I really felt bad about what you were saying about the starting lineup
so I did what I had to with 3 pgs. I mean, they were playing Field, Shumpert and Lee, I had to counter with my BEST three guards. Also Beasley and Wes are way too questionable on defense. I prefer letting the man get past you, and then weakly fouling like Barea or Ridnour do so well.

I just don't get why we stop going inside to Pek
near the end of the game. Same thing a couple games ago (don’t remember which one). If it’s working, and it was, KEEP DOING IT until they are able to stop you. It’s not like we have these great outside shooters who can take over the game.

Rubios - "Clinically PROVEN to Help Reduce Suckiness"
adelman's rotation is broken
against memphis, down 10 with like 4 minutes to go he refuses to put in the starters.
against the mavericks, it was ridnour and wesley playing by royal decree.
tonight it was the 3 guard non-sense with a red hot pekovic watching how the margin of victory was dwindling while there was nobody on the knicks that could check him.
also, last minute plays out of timeouts, he is like 1 for 8 so far (sure, tonight one of them was clearly on rubio)
not gonna excuse anybody other than love for the last 3 games, but for me, this streak has a name, and it’s not wesley johnson.
Starters were shit against Memphis and didn’t deserve any minutes in the 4th.
Can’t defend tonight, though.
I got Twitters:
they were just as bad as the bench players
but if you have pekovic and rubio as your 2nd and 3rd best players you’ve got to try to win with them not with the guys that brought you from down 16 to 10, it makes no sense to teach a lesson to those guys this season.
I fucking agree
Fuck barrea in this game..ellington was better

I’m not a huge fan, but I love what I’ve seen of his defense (compared to JJ or Luke) and his offense is ok.
I’d also like to see more Martel. I love what he does but he’s out of control. I think that’s a lot better than the not caring that Wes gives you.
Both these guys should get 20mpg to at least have a chance to hang themselves. We saw a lot of Ellington when JJ was hurt and I thought he was ok.

Wes Johnson has to GTFO. He has declined to the point where he pretty much has no basketball skills worth mentioning. His shot is broken, his dribble is erratic, his rebounding is fits and starts and his defense is crap.

The criticism up above might be a little harsh
considering Wes doesn’t usually play in the 4th quarter(like this game) and we had the lead going into the 4th. What was he supposed to do? He can’t win every game by smiling on the bench? There is a chance he could have sent home an alley oop at the buzzer had it been drawn up that way.
Wes has his moments. They don’t come consistently, but he’s going to be better next year. Wish we had better answers this year than a 3 point guard lineup.

also, kevin love for a turnaround 3?
can he even make that shot. i haven’t seen him even try that ever, why not put a quicker player there. this is not on adelman as much as the nba in general. the best player doesn’t have to take the last shot everytime. that was a play for ellington/ridnour/beasley/webster. i know they’re shooting like crap, but they practice those kinds of shots a lot more than love, and they take much less time in execute the catch and shoot turnaround.

I Agree Completely
Ridnour and Barea are bad. Barea has streaks, but he isn’t good at defense and shoots way too much. Ridnour would be a good BACKUP. When they play out of position they are even worse. Rubio is good, and very good when he is the only PG in the game. I don’t the rotation. To make it even worse, he has Tolliver, Randolph, Webster, Beasley, Ellington just sitting there the entire game. Let them play their positions, stop playing Wes, and use Ridnour and Barea as backup PGs, not starting sg.
I like Adelman because he obviously adds a lot with his coaching and defense, but his rotations kill almost everything.
I'd prefer JJ as simply a changeup PG
No playing off guard. SHip out Luke, for no other reason than Kahn needs some room to make the moves he will need to make to get this team to a higher level.

It's shockingly (to me) venomous this year, too.
Seems like the expectations have rocketed up so fast that the game thread flips out every time the TIMBERWOLVES LOSE A GAME. It was actually calmer last season, and more full of defeated sarcasm. This year is just frightening anger at the best coach by a mile in Timberwolves history.
I, for one, am still tickled pink at the competence and Rubiosity of this team. As long as they stay within striking distance of .500 and ultimately win 26-27+ games, then I think they get a full season of honeymoon from me.
I dunno.
Much like the real-time second-guessing of Kahn during the 2009 draft, a lot of this Adelman second-guessing seems like OBVIOUS CHANGES THAT SHOULD BE MADE ARE NOT BEING MADE!
Seriously. Wes Johnson should not play a minute, but he’s starting. Luke Ridnour is a good point guard and a great shooter, but hes a terrible shooting guard. This team succeeds when the ball gets passed inside to competent inside scorers like Love and Pek. Things get ugly when other players try to score inside. And we don’t pass the ball inside very often. Outside shots are much less reliable that inside shots, and this team, this season, is horrifically bad at outside shots.
It’s infuriating.
I'm going to brag. I drive the Nikola Pekovic fanwagon.

Yeah, I felt the same way about everyone reacting too quickly when I began reading this blog a year or two ago
But its really not true. The things people get pissed off about around here are usually really obvious issues, and the frustration is usually justified.

Yeah, there should be some rotation changes being made from my perspective (and everyone's)
But the difference is that Kahn’s mistakes resulted in the worst two-year run in franchise history, while Adelman’s horrific failures have resulted in some rapid and dramatic improvement.
I’m not saying he’s right to start Wes and Luke. Just that the results haven’t been disastrous, and we’re acting like they have been.
look, criticising Adelman's decisions is important
just because he’s come in and done an excellent job doesn’t mean he’s perfect. There’s no comparison to the amount of shit we buried Kurt Rambis in though.
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
I don't know...
I just wonder how many of us feel worse about the loss than Adelman.
RA is jesus compared to Rambis
Trust me, it was worse. I think the backlash on RA is happening simply because he’s a great coach and we’re expecting smart decisions
but Rambis is the worst basketball coach I’ve seen in a long, long time

Yes I'm going to go there
Did the Knicks find a better PG on the garbage heap than the one we waited 2 years for? Skill to hit open jumpers makes a gigantic difference. I thought RR was better for 47 minutes but the end of the game makes it tough to argue that the first round of Lin v. Rubio didn’t go the way of the knick.
Rubio outplayed Lin handily
He completely took Lin out of the game in the second half and was all over him. I didn’t really think it was a contest at all

RR worked his ass off on D.
He ran out of steam at the end.
Ricky took big hits on screens too.
A couple of body blows- at least one by Chandler.
lol Lin took some shots as well
Pek hit him pretty hard a couple times with no call.
Too bad we don't have any backup pgs to play when he's out of the game.
Oh wait, they were both playing a ton too.
I have to take your word for it
I wasn’t able to see the game. Just looking at stats, though, Lin bested him.
I got Twitters:
by Matt Leisen on Feb 11, 2012 10:34 PM CST up reply actions
Rubio didn't take out Lin.
The Wolves frontcourt did. He got to the basket whenever he wanted. The contests by Pek and Co were what stopped Lin
Disagree
Rubio played some fantastic D and read his mind when he was trying to make plays. Sometimes letting him by into the trees was a good choice.
I still contend that he mentally took him out of the game in the second half. Just ridiculous defense.

Scoring 20 pts on 24 shots
Is not winning PG play. Throw in 6 TOs and I’d say they won despite him. His success id D’Antoni’s system. Call his number over and over, regression to mean, yadda, yadda, yadda, stat guys help me out here…
I too am a lone wolfpack.
Last time i checked, Lin didn't make those turnovers with a minute left...
Plus, you have to take into account how horrible his team is right now. He has one pure shooter (Novak) and a bunch of slashing guards. He had a rough game, everyone has those types of games. And who knows? if he gets a couple more calls in that game, he could’ve put up 28-30 points on 19 shots. There was more than one time where pek just ran into him in the lane lol.
Lin willed his team to a win despite not having a great game. Rubio did not.
plus, who else would you rather have taking shots for the knicks? it wasn’t like lin was taking a million jumpers, he was taking the ball to the basket. He just wasn’t able to finish, and he didn’t get any calls.
it's amazing
how people will reach when looking for answers after a shitty loss. Rubio is the best player we’ve had since garnett. His ability to see the floor, make key steals, and hit open men is elite-level. Now, if we could just accquire a shooter….

What I'm saying
is that Adelman IS an excellent coach. So obviously he has something in mind with his rotations. And, since he is almost assuredly most basketball savvy than anyone on this forum, especially about his team, we might cut him a lttle slack as he works his way into REALLY knowing them
I would think that the rotations
in March might be different.
Well sure
Its just that it didn’t make any sense.

I gotta believe
Wes is done as the starter after tonight. I know RA has been a tad stubborn about his starters, but just the whole usage of minutes now- Wes is contributing ZERO. He has to see that, right? Just play Martell. How worse could he be at this point?
I too am a lone wolfpack.
is this an experimentation year & the goal is +.500?
or is the goal this year to get into the playoffs… even if it means foregoing player development?
This is my opinion and does not constitute an endorsement, opinion or official position of the U.S. Army.
At the beginning of the year, Adelman said
the goal was to win, not develop. I don’t see it though
why not?
this is as winning as Minnesota has been in three years.
if he was serious about winning...
then he wouldn’t be playing/starting Wes

there HAS to be a reason
he does that. I admit I don’t see it either, but there has to be a reason in his mind.
I think RA is taking the long view with wes
trying to support him, build his confidence, yada yada. I disagree with this approach, because i want to win now. But what do I know?

He's shown no improvement though.
He’s almost gotten worse. He did nothing tonight.
i agree, but...
I’m gonna save my trade Wes venom until I replay his minutes some more. there’s gotta be some positives worth keeping hope (e.g. athleticism, defense, possible shot fix. etc.)

He's what we need. We aren't gonna get
much value with Utah’s pick, we don’t need another rookie to develop. And Williams is stuck behind love and the rest of the wings who don’t play on our team.

utah’s first and an expiring contract, IMO

Adelman teaches great, gets them to play great, does everything but the lineups great.
Thats what I mean by playing to develop. Like Wes for example, he clearly not playing to win, he’s playing to develop. And if we were playing to win, wouldn’t we have different lineups based on matchups and performance rather than the same thing night in and night out?
hmmm... that settles it. Wes gotta go
This is my opinion and does not constitute an endorsement, opinion or official position of the U.S. Army.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
We will have to send a pick with Wes right now to get rid of him. Sorry. It’s true.
I too am a lone wolfpack.
I can't pretend to know
but if I were to guess I’d assume that after watching hours of game film, Adelman and his staff see a reason for Wes. Maybe it’s defense, as in his is better than anyone else’s at his position. Maybe combine that with hopes for potential? I don’t know but there must be a reason.
its like they expect Wes to start producing at a better level
he’s sucked his whole career at least beasley will get you the occassional 30+ game and
I'd even be fine with Wes starting at 2 and Beas at 3
At least we’d have a scorer in the starting lineup, and won’t have mismatches anymore. We wouldn’t need to rely on Wes to do much, just how he likes it
Nice
How was the crowd. 4th largest ever. Largest in 8 years.
Tough game to witness, though it was a fun game.

Ricky's postgame tweet:
There are two ways to act after this game: Punish yourself and fall down, or learn about it and go harder next time! #staypositive
Good attitude, but I am sure he is beating himself up for those 2 TOs (his only 2 of the game). Wouldn’t have even come to that if we could have done anything on offense in the 4th.
This may be the most bummed I’ve been about a loss this year — even worse then the ATL and LAL games.

in all honestly
lin’s 8-24 shooting line tonight looks carmelo-esque. yes, he got 8 ast, but also 6 to’s.
man i’m bummed about this loss. to me, this loss rests squarely on adelman’s shoulders…still better than rambis, though.
http://www.davechisholmmusic.com
The reason we lost...
The whole team excluding Ricky, Kevin and Pek played terrible. We can’t have two/three guys carrying the team all of the time because when those three weren’t in there the Wolves look lost and can’t buy a basket.
Adelman
should have told the team to keep going to Pek and Love.
Would have definitely fucken won this if we kept on going to them in the 4th…
Mother fucking fuck
How much does it suck
that at 13-15, the Knicks are the eighth seed in the East while we’re in eleventh place in the West?
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
