One thing we have going for us tonight is the uniforms say Wolves and NOT Muskies!
October 21, 1990 The Best Day in Minnesota Timberwolves History
Third year in a row with 13 wins on Feb 13th.
Last year on Feb. 13th we had 13 wins (13-41). We would go on to win just 4 more games in the next 2 months.
The year before on Feb 13th, we also had 13 wins (13-40) and would win just 2 – TWO games in the following two months.
So, over the past 2 seasons, after Feb 8th we have gone 6-53 for a 0.102w%. This is worse than the 9-73 Sixers.
This year, even with the frustration, is roughly 937 times better.
"You know you're getting the silver medal, right?" Ricky to Kobe
It was hard to get over that Knicks loss
Still, Orlando aren’t amazing, let’s go Wolves!

I'm still worried about the rain of treys

WHAT????????????????? NO LEAGUE PASS !!!
"I'm shocked - shocked - to find basketball going on in here."
Are we cross-guarding MArtell and Wes to JRich and Turk?
"You know you're getting the silver medal, right?" Ricky to Kobe

I am shocked. Figuratively.

Wes' jumpshot is completely broken
That one never had a chance
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
I saw Martell was playing
I thought finally Wes was not starting. I was singing Phil Collins “In the air tonight”. “I’ve been waiting for this moment all my life.” Then I noticed that Luke was benched instead : (
Pek and Love are a nightmare pairing on the offensive glass

Majorly efficient scoring night for ORL so far.

Our 3 'acceptable' players...
…Love, Ricky, Pek…are on pace for more than 36 minutes tonight. Our 4th is on pace for 30 minutes.
We need better players, period. We can’t play Ricky, Love, Pek 48 minutes a night. We can’t know who will play a reasonably good game between JJ, Wes, Wayne, AR, Beas, AT, DWill, Darko, or even Martell. So, inevitably we are going to have line ups that don’t work for a few minutes.

see my post at the very top of this thread...
not pretty
"You know you're getting the silver medal, right?" Ricky to Kobe
Hah!
Less than seven. He makes it all go. The whole offense, such as it is, is predicated on Ricky Rubio.
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
you are underestimating just how much Charlotte suck
Kevin Love makes us better than them by himself… but, it’s real, real close.
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
remember Mal Charlotte has been playing without their best player..
DJ Augustin who has actually played well this year
he's more that worth it
for just the “fun to watch” factor
Oh no doubt
He’s come into Minnesota basketball like a bright comet of joyful joy.
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
Yup. Without Rubio (or Love) we'd be sunk.
The key to enjoying this year is to realize that last year, we were just plain sunk. Now we have a “What if (blank)?” that’s worse than where we’re at now.
Breakthrough!
But in seriousness, that’s probably a good idea. Playoffs, IMO, should still be firmly in “wildly pleasant surprise” territory this season (for us fans, that is. The front office should try like mad to get there this year).
The Wolves lack depth from 4-12. But they appear to have three legitimately good players now. Let’s just enjoy that for the season, and start gunning for postseason next year.
And the big schtichy for free
Is a tradeable asset.

in your face defensively. Must be a lousy practice player, or miss assignments… or something
In my mind his team D is not always good
He seems to get lost quite a bit. Kind of like Beasley, on one possession he is right on, on the next 3…oy.
"You know you're getting the silver medal, right?" Ricky to Kobe
He rains them down, but only hits 35.7%
which is roughly league average if I remember right.
Wes, on the other hand, is hitting a monster 23.9%, which clearly explains why he is getting all the burn.
23.9?!
that’s way more than i thought it’d be.

Lou Williams is the most similar player to Kobe in his success in play making. Everyone who plays for Philly step up on multiple nights. They are my second most favorite team to watch.

T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson

very tough to catch that
It was fine
Pek had D12 sealed, he just got bumped the instant the ball arrived. bad luck, nothing more. It happens
"You know you're getting the silver medal, right?" Ricky to Kobe
if J Rich can lock you down
then something is seriously wrong. No disrespect to JRich, who I’ve always liked, but his D is hardly stellar.
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
Well, to be fair, JRich only blocks about a shot every 3 games.
How could Wes have predicted this would be the one he finally gets? Oh, wait. It’s Wes. He should, by now, assume the worst is going to happen every time. That way, he’s always right.
This team
is not patient, and dont play fundamental basketball.
Rubio, as great of an improvisor as he is, needs to play with more patience and slow down.
The thing is Ricky isn’t as effective in a slower offense that’s why he struggled in Spain. But I think with the guys we have what your proposing makes a lot more sense. Even if it hurts Ricky’s production a bit.

small shooting lineups don't work
Pek has to play the 4th
a team with Love and Pek has to play inside
and, btw, you are loosing it RA
Unicorns do exists, on wolves skin.
The only thing i can think of with Adelman's rotations is
that he is so good at coaching and knows this, that he overthinks substitutions and goes for clever and cute instead of simple and effective. This reasoning is the only thing keeping me slightly sane
naw adelman is crazy
why the hell is he starting wes? defense doesn’t mean much when you cant score
And Wes is playing god awful defense so that doesn't make sense.
I watch this team, and i care so much, simply because i can’t not. It’s just a part of who i am..
It's a broken record but 6 foot SG's who can not play def, will not work in this league

How the fuck does JJ stay on the court the way he plays? He has been atrocious.
There is no explanation for why Pek doesn’t come back in the fourth until 2 min mark, he was dominating the court. Starting to really get frustrated with Adelman….
I watch this team, and i care so much, simply because i can’t not. It’s just a part of who i am..
the small lineup
is an attempt to spread the floor, move the ball and get points in a hurry. It looks horrible if nobody hits shots. Hmmm… in fact no lineup looks good if nobody hits shots. We have a bunch of mediocre outside shooters. Beasley is pretty good, if hot. Otherwise if Love doen’t hit outside we’re toast. Think of all the wide open shots Rubio sets up for guys. Redick would average 18 on this team.
I never thought I'd want JJ Redick on my team so much.
At this point the Magic can have our JJ and we’ll take theirs. Ugh.
I fear for Wednesday night
Playing a team that has lost 15 in a row. Gawd the pressure to not lose will be awful.
I too am a lone wolfpack.
It would be nice to see Adelman
called for more plays instead of just letting them play
There's a lot to dislike in that game unfortunately
Barea had a nightmare, the defending of screen movement was worthy of imprisonment for crimes against basketball, and the open jumpshots just aren’t falling. The key is spacing though. It’s all about the spacing.
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
There's not enough threat from our spaced perimeter players
at the moment, anyway. They can pack the paint and deny Rubio the space to go to work. It kills us.
T'Wolves 2012: Where Pek Decimates Jason Thompson
I agree
you put any of the name outside guys (Korver, Novak, Kapono et al) on this team and they feast. And defenses have to play them honest.
It would make all the difference
This is why Wes is so horrible for the team. In a typical sequence, he sets up in the weak side corner. Because he can’t shoot though, when Ricky beats his man around the high pick, the help comes strong. Ricky usually recognises this, and sticks it in the shooter’s hands. Pump fake, turnover. So he looks away and forces passes.

The shooting was more 09-10 more than 10-11 Twolves

Rubio played 40. Love played 40 minutes. Pek played 32.
It has nothing to do with Adelman not playing Love and Pek, and everything to do with the craptastic roster Kahn has assembled.
It utterly boggles my mind that it’s 2012 and 2/3rds of our actual nba players are leftovers from the McHale era.
But It is
up to Adelman to somehow get the ball to Love and Pek more often
Looked like they had more than enough attempts
Also, as was said above, if our outside shooters aren’t hitting then everything goes to shit
I would be interested to see our 3 pt % in wins vs losses this year, I’m guessing the difference is staggering
If I'm pissing you off its probably sarcasm

yeah, this is true, but it's not where the game was lost
it was lost on the perimeter.
Love & Pek got 30 shots & 10 free throws, but considering the rest of the team…ugh, I guess they need about 50 combined.
Trades need to happen before the deadline.
Webster/Beasley/Wes/AR/Darko/Ridnour/Ellington/Tolliver/Miller

Is Malcom Lee done in the D league yet?
If not lets trade Lee for Wes.
I watch this team, and i care so much, simply because i can’t not. It’s just a part of who i am..
Not at all joking.
Wes doesn’t deserve to be playing minutes in the NBA, let alone starting. He has done absolutely nothing to deserve playing time, at some point Adelman has to put aside the fact he was a top 5 pick and evaluate his playing time based only on his performance.

You'll get no argument here
I had a massive rant about it after the Knicks game. Been saving the A material for report cards though. Which is ironic, because in no other way would Wes be connected with A material.

Rick Adleman has bizarre standards for players
If he won’t take Wes out because he was a top 5 pick…then what the hell is his strategy with Williams
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
He's also been playing consistently all season
where as Williams hasn’t.
Adleman complains that no wings have stepped up to be consistent, but I don’t understand how he expects anyone, a rookie in particular, to play consistently without consistent minutes. Wes, to his credit, has been consistently bad.
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
Consistency
Wes basically knows going into every game he has the entire first quarter to work with and if he plays reasonably in it he will play again and if he doesn’t he will probably not play a whole lot. He generally plays with Rubio and Love which helps put him in the best possible position to succeed as he generally sees open shots or driving lanes
DW checks in generally late in the first or early second, doesn’t know how long he is going to play and is never really set up to succeed as he is largely playing with Beasley who basically claims all of Williams shots since they largely do the exact same thing.
Williams will play 26 minutes one night and 10 the next. Is never really given any room to get into a flow, the games he is given that leeway he ends up looking pretty solid in
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
Lee is done with the D league stint
but didn’t accompany the team on this trip.
He didn’t set the world on fire down there, so don’t expect too much once he gets minutes in the NBA….
Ricky is lobbing at an Ooptimal level!
I can’t believe she’s only a year older than me. I still got a chance :)

Don't know why Miller gets any min over Randolph
But Tolliver hasn’t made a shot since his wrist injury in that fall a ways back. (possible exaggeration)

Quick Thoughts on Tonights Game
Positives: Pek continues to prove he is a legit NBA Center, Ricky Shot Better
Negatives: We are a Jump Shooting Team who can NOT shoot, Still need Wings

So, what'd I miss?
First game all season I missed because I was driving my wife around, thinking “no problem, it will archive on LP” and then get home and find out NBA TV are treated like actual national games? Really NBA? Sigh.
Anyhoo….catching up on he game via CH comments is, well, illuminating.
:-)
Just boxscore impressions: 18 TO, ORL was +11 on pts off TO. JJ? 7 TOs?
Was Pek as solid as the boxscore indicates- against D12 no less?
And finally, I’d really want to know what Kahn is thinking right now. If I hear a comment from him that the Wolves and their fans simply need to execute some patience my head might pop off and roll around on the floor while my dumb dogs lick it.
I too am a lone wolfpack.
Pek definitely held his own with D12. Darko, on the other hand, not so much.
Frustrating that we were able to get him in foul trouble and keep him in check like that and still get killed. I am now officially nervous for Wednesday’s game with the Bobcats.
Were we playing the Rambis strategy of “defending” the 3-point shot tonight or something?
The Illusion of Progress
We have 3 players on this team. When Luke Ridnour is your 4th best player, you have a bad team. The front office hasn’t done enough, and someone has to pay. Kahn is the logical fall guy. Get him out.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
Egads!
Looking at the upcoming schedule, the Woofies might not be done bottoming out. After Charlotte they face the following stretch:
@HOU
PHL
@DEN
UTH
@LAC
@LAL
@PHX
@POR
LAC
POR
LAL
Only 1 sub 500 team in an 11 game stretch and that game is on the road. I guess we’ll discover what RA does with players that start to go through the motions if they’ve reached only 14, 15 wins after that gauntlet.
Again, what is Kahn doing to rectify this situation. Too many of these players have too many minutes under the hood to suddenly think they are going to be lathered in awesome sauce.
I too am a lone wolfpack.
Ouch. I think/hope they'll get three or four of those games.
And then be something like 17-24 after that stretch?
Hopefully the schedule lightens up considerably after that.
We will win 3 of the next 5 games
I've got good judgement from experience and experience from bad judgement.
Brace yourself
for one of our infamous epic 17 game losing streaks

If we lose to the Bobcats...
I give up. Wes is god awful out there. What does he have on you Adleman? Did he catch you doing something terrible? Is David Kahn forcing it? It makes NO SENSE. The potential argument really only works for rookies. He had potential last year, but clearly isn’t cut out for this league. We have no adequate shooters and the past 4 games have shown our glaring weakness. Teams don’t even block Wes anymore and we never want to pass to him so its really a 4 on 5 power play for the other team. We ALWAYS start slow because of this. PLEASE take Wes out he is ruining this once hopeful season.

wes didnt play the 4th quarter v the knicks when the wolves had one fg in the last 9+ minutes
Rickey puked the game up with two tos and losing his man on a screen for a three. Oh and did he dribble off his foot? A Jonny reprise!
Wes diidn’t play poorly tonight. Please watch the games and stop obsessing on an imaginary scapegoat.
not hating on RR. Great player. Just keep it in perspective and watch the games.
Wes +2 v Knicks and -6 tonight. When he plays well he plays. When he doesn’t he sits. Barea had 5 tos in the half and is worse than Ridnour and Jonny as a shoot first pg. “Team” completely lost steam when Love “stepped on” their momentum.
Keep your focus.

maybe I'm crazy
but 3/7 0/2 from the 3 shooting at 6 points 5 reb and 1 assist isn’t playing well. Yeah Barea played terrible. I did watch the game, but before the third quarter I said I will stop watching when Wes starts the 3rd and we go down by 20. A lot played poorly tonight, but Wes consistently plays poorly. Call me crazy, but he didn’t play “well” last night. Mediocre is more like it.
by mnsportswopwopwah on Feb 14, 2012 7:43 AM CST up reply actions
you forgot the two blocks
And those numbers aren’t bad for 20 minutes. He hasn’t played well this season but its getting overplayed. In the knickks game thread people are criticising Wes because he didn’t get a loose ball then suddenly get writers block when Rubio turns the ball over. His to in a tie game isn’t even mentioned.
just keep the entire picture in perspective.
The Wolves had 7 fourth q points with a minute to go v Knicks. No Wes. Last night he was the only player to score for a long stretch.
News flash! The team is mediocre. Its become a bit too fashionable to continually blame one player.

So you're crediting Wes' +- to his own play?
That’s an extremely noisy statistic
no Zeb
Just making a point. If your take away from the last game is “Wes is God aweful” you are clearly following a narrative. The simple fact is Wes had nothing to do with the last two losses. He didn’t partake in the giveaway v NY and he played decently v Orlando.
Hes had a bad season thus far but Adelman has limited his exposure. But its fun I guess to blame losses on an imaginary scapegoat.

extrapolate a bit more Tangerine
Wes had a good 3rd quarter when he hit 3 shots and had a block IIRC but to say he was anything other than not-bad for a stretch is pushing things. My actual point was that you are using a statistic which is highly highly dependent on all 5 players on the floor to try and say something about an individual. +- in my mind is a pretty terrible statistic for doing anything other than comparing various 5 man rotations that have seen significant play time together.
We better not loes to the Bobcats.
We are not TOR, SAC, WAS, NO…. that’s where they need to be looking to end their losing streak.
Relax people
This team isn’t going to Rambis out on us. We’ve proven we can play with anyone…both good and bad. The past few games were kinda fugly, yes. We’re young. Rubio is in a bit of a rut. They’ve done a good job of rotating so Love isn’t shooting open 3’s. Teams adjusted.
We’ll adjust back. D Will is still showing flashes of being something with his aggressiveness.
I’d expect a comfy 9 pt win over the Bobcats.
…But that Philly game is going to be a bitch. Thats the exact type of team we’re hard to watch against (a la Pacers game.)
