The two sides of Linsanity
Before I go into my point, I wanted to introduce myself since I'm a new member. I've been a Timberwolves fan my whole life, but after the Garnett trade I started losing interest in our pups and watched fewer and fewer games. Last year something changed.. maybe it was in me, or maybe it was in the team, but I was OBSESSED.. I watched every TV broadcast, attended a bunch of games.. almost convinced my girlfriend to agree to get League Pass... almost. As with the rest of you, I LOVE this team and this year has been the most fun I've had watching the Wolves since the 96-97 season when they first tasted the playoffs. I've read the articles and conversations on this site for a couple years now and finally signed up. Thank you guys for making my long boring days at work go that much faster!!
Regarding Jeremy Lin. I found myself on both sides of the Jeremy Lin phenomenon within a 24 hour period. As it built up, I was caught up in the story as much as anyone else was. I watched and cheered him on as he scored 38 against the Lakers and thought "this kid/hype is for real"... Then I watched him be VERY ineffective against our Wolves, only making one basket and a free throw in the 2nd half. As far as I could tell from Section 121 (which was on the opposite end as the Knicks basket), he wasn't that involved in the Knicks comeback at all. When I got home (FURIOUS/Hearbroken as I am after most Wolves losses) and turn on ESPN, where their upcoming breaking news thing (which usually is only used for the biggest announcements/events) says "Jeremy Lin's Reaction coming up". Then later they say "Linsanity Continues" when referencing the Wolves game. Now is it just me being a hater, or did Jeremy Lin have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE KNICKS WINNING THAT GAME?? I think I'm just bitter and biased because of my love for everything T-Wolf.. but part of me thinks they are just amping this Jeremy Lin shit to A) feed the NY fan base and B) to capitalize on all this new money coming in from from non-basketball/pro-Lin fans. I guess now that I type it out it makes business sense, but it pisses me off as a T-Wolf fan that our team's inclusion in this "Lin-gacy" is really forced and unwarranted. Alright... rant over. Thanks again for exisiting CH!!

the new york fan base is ridiculous.
i live in new york about an hour from the city, and the media has people convinced that Lin is the second coming of michael jordan, Eli is better then peyton (HA!) the islanders are a legitimate team, and that anyone who has even set foot in philly or boston is horrible at whatever he/she does. this whole lin thing will die down once teams get tape on him, and once melo and a’mare come back. as soon as the knicks are eliminated from playoff contention the media will say how jeremy lin was never good and theyll find someone else, its never.ending.

Partially true
Think Lin has some skills that can keep him productive in the league for a long time (BBIQ, passing, driving).
No he’s not a superstar, but certainly seems to be a legit PG.
Undoubtedly overhyped… but he’s a great story. And he truly did pull a Knicks time back from the brink. I can only imagine what would have happened had they lost these 5 games in a row.
im not saying he has no skill, hes a great PG
but the hype that new york players is over the top. other then the lakers, who has he beaten? i dont have the schedule in front of me so i may be wrong but didnt they beat teams like the wizards? the nets? and two decent teams like the jazz and our twolves (which i would never credit to him)

Lin helped the Knicks beat the TWolves
And that’s what counts, in the end. Sure, Lin had turnovers and made mistakes, but all players do that.
Last I checked NBA basketball’s still a team game. Why else would we keep hearing these stars say they need help? The TWolves have a deeper lineup than NY, they had time to prepare for the Knicks. They prepared for Lin. They guarded him, kept the pressure on, and he struggled.
TWolves still lost to a team without its 2 biggest stars, and desperate enough to overrely on one guy who’s had an awesome week.
please, lin didnt help beat the wolves.
you dont think carmelo wouldve gone better then 8-24? if beasly went 8-24 in a win we’d all be appauled. hes at his ceiling now and isnt going to get any better

I doubt that "everyone here"
would be appalled if the TWolves’ were doing poorly, so long as they win in the end.
You may eventually be proven right that Lin “isn’t going to get any better”. Who knows what the future’s gonna bring.
Except Lin’s already exceeded the expectations of 30 NBA teams, who all decided the guy wasn’t promising enough to draft. The teams who eventually hired him didn’t think he was good enough to keep long-term. You can insist all you like about how Lin didn’t help his team beat the TWolves, but that was what happened.
They're just pushing the story until they can't push it any more
They have done the same thing with terrell owens, tebow, tiger, lebron etc.
Also NY is the biggest market so of course they’ll devote the most airtime when something decent is happening on the Knicks. Happens in all the sports actually, as LA/NY/Chitown teams get way more coverage than anyone else
If I'm pissing you off its probably sarcasm
And why wouldn't they?
Until last week, I reckon even most fans who follow the NBA didn’t know who he was. If this same player suddenly came out of nowhere to lead the TWolves in winning 5 straight games, he’d be on the front page too.
It would be no where as insane if he was from here
But I agree, there’s nothing wrong with pushing it because it’s a great story.

I didn't even think that far into it
I just wanted to put a suffix with Rubio.. but I guess the league is stricken with Rubio-Curiosity! It’s based in legend and word of mouth.. rather than a forced manufactured “insanity”.. ha you have filled in the holes in my mind.

20 points

Jeremy Lin contributed 20 points to the Knicks’ total score, which was higher than Minny’s at the end of the game.
You’re just being a frustrated TWolves fan.
A wild Lin fan appeared!

He had 3 assists in the last 3 minutes
and the game winning free throw. He fought through a tough game in which he really got roughed up. The guy never quit, and came up big at the end. He lead the team in points and assists. and added 6 rebounds (2 offensive) and 3 steals! That that was also the Knicks’ 5th win in a row with Lin leading the team.
I think you are just a frustrated Wolves fan.
To be a Wolves fan and to be a frustrated Wolves fan are pretty much one and the same.

Nice story, but....
….I’m starting to get Lin fatigue.
I watched the Knicks/Raptors game tonight. A lot in common with the Twolves game. Raptors were in charge most of the night, then completely melted down late and handed the Knicks the game. Lin was getting schooled by Calderon and Barbosa for much of it. He committed 8 TO’s (some of them cringe-worthy) and missed 3 key FT’s in the 4th quarter.
All you’ll hear talk about is the 6 points he scored on the last 2 plays, and how he carried the Knicks to victory again. But as with Tim Tebow, lost in all of the endless gushing over the last-minute heroics will be the fact the his perfomance over the first 3.9 quarters was a mixture of the good, bad and ugly, with at least as much bad and ugly as good.
So it was a bad game then?
I missed it….Looks like he hit the game winner though so he got the job done in the end.

Not a bad game, but....
…..without some big play from some other guys to cover for some of Lin’s mistakes, the Knicks lose by 8 or so and he doesn’t have the chance to win the game. Shumpert’s 4th quarter D on Calderon (who had been killing the Knicks for the first 3) was at least as deserving of praise as anything Lin did.
Again, Lin is a nice story, but watching the national sports media hype it to within an inch of its life is getting on my nerves. ESPN might as well rename itself “The Jeremy Lin Channel”. In their 5-on-5, they actually seriously posed the question “should Jeremy Lin be in the All-Star” game.
