Rising Kahn Challange

The BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Draft was held Thursday, Feb. 16, and Jeremy Lin and Norris Cole were included to the roster pool by Commissioner Smith.

The teams look like:

Star-divide

Team Shaq

F Blake Griffin, LA Clippers
G Jeremy Lin, NY Knicks
G Ricky Rubio, Minnesota Timberwolves
F Markieff Morris, Phoenix Suns
G Kemba Walker, Charlotte Bobcats
G Landry Fields, NY Knicks
G Norris Cole, Miami Heat
G Brandon Knight, Detroit Pistons
F Tristan Thompson, Cleveland Cavaliers
C Greg Monroe, Detroit Pistons

Team Chuck

G Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers
C DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings
F Derrick Williams, Minnesota Timberwolves
G-F Paul George, Indiana Pacers
G-F MarShon Brooks, NJ Nets
G John Wall, Washington Wizards
F-C Tiago Splitter, San Antonio Spurs
G-F Evan Turner, Philadelphia 76ers
F Gordon Hayward, Utah Jazz
G-F Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs

All other details about the players at Rising Stars Challenge

It is clear the lack of the balance in the final rosters.

  • Up to 5 PGs in Rubio's team
  • Up to 7 Fs in DWill's team

So there won't be much time for our rookies.

somehow pek

didn’t get selected over Norris Cole. really?

That decission is about markets

They can get people from Asia and NY more interested in the event because of Lin.

Everyone always underestimates

the Montenegro market!

Under

I think Lin gets too much playing time here for that to happen

Obviously Shaq Team

other than Landry Fields, there isn’t a competent 2 or 3 on the squad…

Ricky is lobbing at an Ooptimal level!

Somehow

Shaq has picked the dumbest collection of good players that has ever been collected. What the hell?

I'm going to brag. I drive the Nikola Pekovic fanwagon.

I flipped on TNT to watch it, and it was kind of hilarious.

Barkley (who I kind of love) seemed to know exactly who he wanted. Shaq, after picking Blake Griffin, seemed totally befuddled. David Kahn would be proud of his skills at point guard collection.

would it not be awesome

if somehow griffin was replaced right before the tip with a WWE inspired entrance by pek? Blake isn’t going to waste his time in the Saturday game is he?

I too am a lone wolfpack.

I was really happy to see Rubio and Griffith on the same team

then I noticed Lin was there and realized Rubio was gonna get screwed over

first-worst-first?

Shaq has the more exciting team with the bigger names Rubio, Griffin, and Lin but Charles has the better, deeper, more balanced team.

Somehow Shaq picked a team with only one sg and no sf but since no one will probably play any defense I guess it won’t matter.

Anyone else think it's dumb to have an All-star game STARTER

in the “rising stars” challenge? Pekovic should absolutely be replacing Blake Griffin in this. I originally thought Griffin’s team would win easily, but Shaq kind of messed up the selections, so this could be close. I would have liked to see Rubio on Kyrie Irving’s team with Irving starting at SG. As a Wolves fan, that would have been very interesting. That is a 2 PG system that actually makes sense.

Well, it looks like

D-Thrill and Splitter are the only 2 PF’s, and with Splitter likely backing up Cousins at the 5, Williams should see good minutes. Also, I just have to say, how exciting would (hopefully it happens) a Rubio / Lin backcourt be? But Rubio is the tallest of the 5 PG’s, so he could get some serious minutes out there defending Chuck’s SF.

by Bartzy on Feb 17, 2012 12:49 AM CST reply actions

Lin + Rubio??

= Liio (Leo). Fate that these 2 are on the same time… as a Taiwanese American myself and being an oddball Wolves fan, perfection!

by YoLeo on Feb 17, 2012 2:42 AM CST reply actions

Shaq's team hinges on Greg Monroe

If he plays good, I think they win. Plus, they got some strong role players that won’t try to dominate the ball like Morris and Fields.

I’m pickin Diesel’s team.

Chuck's got this.

I can see Rubio playing a fair bit at SG with Lin or vice versa.

Oh and please tell me he didn’t pick Lin second of all those players. I mean come on.

Also, Rubio, Fields, C-Lion, Griffin, Cousins.

That’s what I want to see.

rubio-lin-morris-griffin-monroe

and run, run, run.

best thing is, you have 3 very good (by rookie contest standards) in that lineup and they are build to rebound and run which is what this game is all about.
irving-marshon brooks-paul george-d-will-dmc = so many bad shots it will be ridiculous. everybody in there is gonna call their own number every time they touch the ball. if they’re hot, they can score 135 points, if not, they will lose by 25.

benches will play a role, specially if blake plays few minutes due to the big game. i hope this doesn’t happen because he is the guy i want to see there with ricky and lin, but it wouldn’t surprise at all.

by kuntraidor on Feb 17, 2012 10:35 AM CST reply actions

From Zgoda's twitter:

Ricky on Team Shaq w/ him, Lin, Kemba, Cole, B Knight all together: “We have a lot of point guards. I don’t know if Shaq is a good GM.”

Too funny.

I didn't vote because both teams suck

and putting Rubio and Lin on the same team is the biggest ratings killjoy move ever.

Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
