Derrick Williams, Pau Gasol and how we get two good wings
With the big Pau Gasol rumor that happened last week I began to think of reasons why this would be the case. it is superemely likely this was just one in a series of wild rumors for the next 4 weeks or so till the trade deadline.
But what if there is a bigger implication here? I threw out some scenarios where we acquire Gasol to move Pek while his trade value is at an all time high to get a wing (like Evan Turner) but then I began putting my Voodoo Magic hat on and looking at potential bigger picture deals and this was something I came up with
who says no:
Minnesota: Eric Gordon, Chase Budinger
La Lakers: Emeka Oakafor, Courtney Lee, Goran Dragic
Houston Rockets: Pau Gasol
NO Hornets: Derek Williams, Luke Ridnour, Kevin Martin draft pick (s) from Minnesota
this is a pretty sound deal from what I can tell and salaries all work. Houston gets the player they covet while paying a fair but not too steep price (Martin, Budinger, Dragic, Lee all good players but they don't have to move Lowrey) . The NO Hornets get a young player to build around, a quality veteran in Martin and a producing player in Ridnour plus they free some salary up by moving Oakafor contract. LA moves their supposedly awful contract with Gasol and replaces it with a quality big to pair with Bynum and too starting wing players to pair with Braynt to give them another title run. the Wolves get the wings they have been looking for.
I think this is pretty solid. What are the holes (outside of the fact reality happens and trades like this never happen)? Do you like it? Love it? or Hate it?

Pretty sure Laker fans would riot
if that’s all they got for Pau Gasol, who is still a superstar and not that old.
But I could be wrong…

Lakers say no.
I totally agree. Don’t know why they’d give up Gasol for three mediocre role players. By the way, I don’t think they would want to pair Okafor with Bynum. They are both centers.
Hornets play Okafor and Chris K.
I don’t think that would be too awful of a front court at all.

Is it really dark in there?

I don't think the Lakers would do this.
I posted this in another thread. I think it works in principle.
Reason is the first victim of strong emotion.
Aside from the obvious argument about
the Lakers return, why would Houston trade away both Martin and Lee? Am I missing something or forgetting someone?

Because they want Gasol?
and both those two are nothing special
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
So let me get this straight (to those that say the Lakers would turn this down)
We as Wolves fans hate the idea of Derrick Williams for Pau Gasol cause he is supposedly over the hill and due to make 20 and 22 million in the final two years of his deal (which is why I was assuming the Lakers would trade him)
but the Lakers would turn this deal down when they get a good post player in Oakfor (who is probably more of a PF than a center anyway) who will make almost 25 million less over the next three years than Gasol and they get two young quality guards especially Dragic who is legit and will be awesome once he starts playing consistently?

Okafor is overpaid...
I like him, but he isn’t really a positive asset at that price. Guys like Dragic and Lee are available every free agency period, especially to a team like the Lakers. Derrick Williams has more value than that package (not to mention I doubt the Lakers would do Pau for D-Will.)

I guess this is a fair enough point
I just think it’s funny when people will say we should never take a Gasol for his contract cause it’s the worst contract in the NBA and then a new deal comes up and they are like, Lakers would never do it.
But if you don’t believe Gasol=DWill is possible then I guess neither would this
Dragic is being criminally underrated though. The guy is pretty awesome

Rockets
I don’t think they give up those three for Pau. They’d be giving up their two good SG’s.

I would love to see the wolves
trade Beasley for Ariza
I'd love this deal
I’ve been a big Ariza fan for awhile. If the Hornets wanted to throw him in (or if he would help convince LA) I think you throw Beasley in to get it done

First of all I would cut NOLA right out, dealing with Stern could be a nightmare until they get some real ownership.
Minny- Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill, Thabeet (Darko 2.0)
Houston- Gasol
LAL- Wes Johnson, Darko, Brad Miller, DWill (some kind of protected pick from us)
Canis, What say you? Who says no to this

yeah I hate it too
I also don’t really like Kevin Martin in general and especially for this team/for DWill
