I need help understanding...
why some nba teams, Twolves included, draft international players but never bring them to play for the team???
I was looking at the Twolves draft history and these are just some of the players in recent drafts that were never brought to the team.
2010-
Paulao Prestes
2009-
2006-
Loukas Mavrokefalidis
Where are these players now? and why choose them in the draft if they are to never be part of the team?

They draft them
and hope they develop into NBA players. Not a lot of players drafted in the second round make it to the NBA whether they are drafted from Europe or not. It’s simply a result of taking a chance on a guy and then it turns out he isn’t very good so he stays in Europe. As much as I liked Paulao, I don’t think any of those guys will be playing for the Wolves.

Henk Norel
Pretty sure we took Henk Norel because he was a teammate of Rubio’s at the time.
Since the league only lets NBA teams pay 500k of a players buyout, Henk was drafted so we could backdoor the team an extra 500k for Rubio.
Just a theory.
Bjelica is interesting
He plays a position of need for us and is presumably a good ball handler based on him being listed as someone who occasionally plays a little point forward. His shooting percentages in Euro-league are great, but he’s coming off the bench. Anyone follow this guy at all? What are the chances he develops into something NBA worthy?
I was just about to ask this
my original understanding was he was playing the SF like Vesely, very much based on athleticism but that shooting percentage he’s better than that.
Don't confuse Nemanja and Milko Bijelica
both of them playing for Caja Laboral. Milko has good stats this season. Nemanja is ultra talented ( 6 feet 10 inches (208cm – 209cm) and could play point forward. Solid shooting and rebounding but not strong enough and stagnating last two seasons.

Bjelica...
is playing out of his mind in the EURO league right now…. but his 11/12 ACB stats are terrible… Let’s hope his current EURO numbers keep up. He may be the player we hoped he would be.
Prestes looked like a steal at the time, but has unfortunately regressed.
IIRC
The Spurs had him in for a workout the year he was drafted, thinking they might have identified a diamond in the rough. But they decided to defer. TBH, I’m a bit encouraged by the fact that he caught the eye of someone in San Antonio, given their record for finding Euros with potential.
That's a great glass 1/2 full example

2nd rounders usually don't pan out very well.
If you can draft a Euroleaguer and watch him develop and he does. You’ve struck gold. Other wise save the roster spot for someone who migh actually be worth it. Otherwise you’re calling on Chris Richards to come in and play some minutes. Which I might add was drafted ahead of Marc Gasol.

Do they still belong to the Twolves?
Can we add them to the roster anytime we think they are worthy?
Yes, they are still ours.
Adding them isn’t so cut and dry.
First, they need to be able to get out of their existing contract – and they may or may not have a buy out. And if they do, it may not be financially feasible for them to exercise it.
Second, we need to agree to a contract with them. If they were drafted in the 2nd round, they don’t fall under the standard rookie slotting – like Pek and Splitter in recent years.
