Try to guess how I really feel about Darko...

I have been following this site for years, but so far, I've been perfectly content reading other people's posts and mostly nodding in approval. I have never before been compelled to actually post anything. But this has been frustrating me for months, and during the pathetic and utterly unwatchable Pacers -TWolves tilt last night, I've reached the point of not being able to hold it to myself any longer, so here it is... Darko is an awful, awful professional basketball player. I know that, you all know that - why has it not been openly acknowledged by anyone? Yes, we all make fun of him from time to time - but then we turn around and praise him for an occasional, once-every-five-games effort. This is not acceptable. Any positive contribution he manages to make on the floor is the sole function of him being 15 feet tall and having arms. He has no discernible basketball skills other than being awkwardly tall. He can't catch the ball, dribble the ball, shoot the ball, or handle the ball. He puts up a couple of blocks on a good night, but that does not negate the 10 times each game when he is only expected to make an adequate basketball play, and he thoroughly fails to do so. Pek is a folk hero around these parts of the internet - and that's mostly because he's a Not-Darko. Pek is an average center, but in the age where good centers are a mythical creature, it will more than do. Darko, on the other hand, should be starring in My Giant 2, and not starting for a self-respecting NBA outfit and eating into Pec's (and even Anthony Randolph's) minutes. Not even during garbage time. I understand that this is nothing but a rant, and I realize that nothing will change. But if you agree, you're welcome to join me. All anti-Darko ventings are welcome. In conclusion, Darko is awful.

You're so right! You're so wrong!

“Darko is an awful, awful professional basketball player. "
-This is a fair and reasonable assertion. It is so true.

“He has no discernible basketball skills other than being awkwardly tall. He can’t catch the ball, dribble the ball, shoot the ball, or handle the ball.”
-This couldn’t be further from the truth. This is the tease. The guy can shoot, dribble, catch, and handle. And he can do so better than most anyone his size.

This is why you hate him. Because he is both A. AND B. It is also why some foolish POBO will give him just one more try when Adelman has seen enough.

Were you watching the game last night?

Several times Darko! tried a bounce pass ala Rubio, and each time threw the pass at the feet of his teammate, making it near impossible to catch, resulting in turnovers. Horrible. He shot 2-9, and the makes were probably of the kind even Darko can’t miss (uncontested dunk). The rest were hopeless hook shots, which is nearly all he ever shoots. Pathetic.

He’s a horrible shooter. That he is even allowed to shoot a hook should be disallowed from now on, which would result in more points scored for our team because a more talented player would do the shooting. My stomache turns every time he touches the ball. He certainly will never drive the lane, ala Pek, and will never outmuscle anybody, resulting in no trips to the foul line. He is as soft as a marshmallow, and just as talented.

EnderLM nailed his review of Darko!, whose defense is non existant as he can be shoved around with ease, and gets backed down and shot over consistently. He serves no valuable purpose whatsoever, and chews up minutes of more talented, deserving players. He is truly an abomination of a ball player.

Tim Duncan was called the Big fundamental.

Darko will from here on out be known as The Big Detrimental, since when he is getting any playing time at all, we have as much a chance of losing as winning.

I respect your opinion, TD, but in this case, I disagree.

Darko! must go, for the Wolves to improve.

its his application which is the issue.

He is disinterested in being great. He has all of the skills to be great.

Let us not lose the fact

that you just coined “The Big Detrimental”

Love it!

The whole team (including Ridnour)

needs to understand that they’re not Ricky, and their brains aren’t equipped to assess passing lanes as well but most importantly IT’S NOT A GOOD PASS IF NO ONE’S EXPECTING IT!

This team needs to make more eye contact!

Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!

I disagree slightly he has 3 obvious faults

all of which should be fixable

  • In the post he doesn’t keep the ball high and is regularly stripped by guards for his faults.
  • He hates dunks and loves low % hook shots
  • He likes pretty passes. i.e. He doesn’t mind passing to a cutter, a fellow big on the block or other in traffic passes. He seems to despise just kicking it back out to his PG (i.e. the safe play). The problem is all these passes are made in traffic and are ones that good passers like Rubio can pull off, adequate passers like Darko cannot. This isn’t to say he doesn’t make the occasional brilliant pass like a kick out to Ridnour in the corner earlier this year but for the most part he wants the play that looks good rather than the one that works.

All of these are simple mental errors that a dedicated player would fix. Darko doesn’t want to work that hard, the man is a professional athlete who smokes… nuff said

you dont disagree at all.

We agree that he is flawed mentally (emotionally). Has the skills- has no drive or desire to be the best. Kurt pampered him. Aweful result. Adelman tough love? Same result. 8 years and I’m beginning to see a possible trend developing…..

I do think Darko gets a bad rap regarding catching the ball. Guys his size just are not going to to make a play on a bounce pass from three feet away very often. The guys playing with him need to understand this. His hands are really far away from his body. If you pass from too close, he can’t get them there in time to make the catch.

I was a poster who thought

that a 4 year 16 million dollar contract for the Serbian Enigma seemed like a good bargain at the time. If Darko is used as a defensive C on guys like Perkins, Bynum, DHoward, etc, he has some value. If he ever takes another hook shot, RA should commence the electro-shock therapy(I’m kidding, hypnosis would likely be more effective and less abusive)!
Darko is a spot player, as is Barea, as is Wayno, as is AT, as is AR, as is DWill, and Wes- well maybe there is a place that allows the two worst draft picks in TWolves history playing time, McHale owes us at least this much right? KMart is getting older Kevin, wouldn’t a nice young SF be the perfect player for him to mentor?
P.S. If someone needs to abduct our POBO to make it happen, I have friends that would be thrilled with providing lodging in a remote location until the deal goes through….

Darko's power level is over 9000

You don’t amnesty players whose power level is over 9000

He won’t be amnestied till the offseason. He also has a useful trade filler contract. Not too small, not too large.

by Keelhaul on Feb 3, 2012 3:56 AM CST up reply actions

yes but we have lots of such contracts

compare our contracts to Portland sometime. We have tons of people in the 3-5mil range while they have their starters and their scrubs (<2mil).

by zebano on Feb 3, 2012 7:44 AM CST up reply actions

Just doesn't care.

And that is his biggest problem. Nobody cared about him during his time in Detroit and at some point he just lost his passion for the game. There are plenty of mediocre players around the league that lack skill, athleticism and fundamentals but they go out there every time they have a chance even if it’s only playing for 5 minutes, and they bust ass every time.

Honestly, it’s disappointing, because compared a lot of those players, Darko has all the potential in the world. Yet he does just enough to get by,, plays sloppy on both ends of the floor and just displays an overall total lack of finesse and hustle.

The wolves made a huge mistake offering him 4 years. As teams have already found out by taking on the gamble of this guy to start working and live up to his potential, he just doesn’t care. At the end of the day, he sits comfortably at home making 5mil a year at 26 years of age. Luckily, the contract is almost done and the T-wolves as well as the rest of the NBA can finally be done with this draft bust.

Yes, this video shows that you are right:

I Know, he lacks cosistency and need a shrink, but he knows how to shoot, handle, dribble etc.
Also i know that Darko is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. I didn’t lost hope….

I would really like to find out what force is responsible for Super Darko, and what causes ‘’Space Jam aliens took his talent Darko’’….
