Shawn Marion?
As the rumor mill turns another Beasley possibility has popped up. The Mavs could be looking to move Shawn Marion because of his semi expensive 8.3 million dollar contract for next year so they can make a big run in free agency which would also be why they would want a player like Beasley on an expiring contract to dump at the end of the year. Marion wouldn't be the solid long range shooting 2 guard that really is ideal for this team but he is an elite defender that could really strengthen our already much improved defense and can penetrate and score some. Would his wing play and defense be a big enough improvement to warrant us spending that money on him next year or should we steer clear so we have more to potentially throw at a 2 guard in the off season? Ide add a poll because this really kind of warrants it but it freezes my browser everytime I try too so discuss below.

I like the idea
I’d like to hear what others think as far as being something Dallas would want to do. How many years are left on Marion’s deal and what do you guys think he has left in the tank?
I'd only be interested if we got Beaubois too.
I doubt Dallas would want any multi-year contracts back. Something like this would be ideal:
Marion, Beaubois, and Jones for Beasley, Randolph or Tolliver, and Ridnour or Barea (after March 1).
Marion at SF and Beaubois at SG
Pek,Love,Marion,Beaubois and Rubio would be fun to watch

According to Broussard
the Mavs have cooled considerably on Roddy Buckets
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/37357/lakers-like-beasley
Sources say Dallas is about ready to move on from the Roddy Beaubois experiment. The Mavericks have thought for years that the talented young Frenchman could be another Tony Parker, but he has not been able to master the move from shooting guard to point guard. Nor has he been able to fill the void left by J.J. Barea. If they don’t move him before this year’s deadline, he could be gone over the summer.
I do not like Shawn Marion
I do not like him with the Mavs
I would not like him on the Cavs
I do not want him at the three
I cannot see him with Ricky
I do not think he is the one
I do not like Shawn Marion
Would I like him more than Wes?
I’d like anyone more, I guess
Would he cure all on the wing?
Not enough to get a ring
So when the trade deadline is done
I hope we pass on Marion
How ‘bout starting for the champs?
His jump shot looks just like my Gramp’s
But don’t you want a past All-Star?
His effort isn’t up to par
I just think it won’t be fun
If the Wolves get Marion
I do not think he can play D
On somebody, like Kobe
I do not think he goes all out
Instead I watch him loaf and pout
His contract handcuffs for a year
We’ll get no free…agents, I fear
He does not score and dunk and run
Like he did as a Sun
I’ll say again, and then I’m done
I do not want Shawn Marion

So you say
Try him! Try him!
And you may
Try him and you may I say
I would like him tough inside the box
I would like him with our Balkan fox
I would like him high and yet down low
I would like him with our Rubio
I would like him here and also there
I would like him, like him everywhere

wow
two epic posts discussing Shawn Marion. Tomorrows assignment is to use the Lorax in your post =)
for the record I would be ok with Marion because it means Kahn sees the gaping void that is our wing play. He’s far far away from my preferred solution but making any change would get applause from me right now.
Not to get off topic
but is anyone else really excited for the Lorax movie?

No, the book is great
There is no way the movie will compare, and almost without question they will screw it up.
I've changed my sig. The Wolves are now like a reasonably decent meal.

That D and Vet savvy
For Beas and AR (it works out perfectly) is a no-brainer.
Plus he’ll knock down the open 3. Whats not to like?
The Love-Meter is ticking, folks. I love the direction, but a move like this is the kind of thing that gets us into the playoffs AND ramps up the odds of a Love stay.
not really
Marion makes us better, yes, but does nothing to improve our standing with Love

This is an interesting idea
Marion is still producing at a decent level. If he were younger, it would be a slam dunk. The Wolves are (I would think) going to let Beasley walk this summer anyway. While everyone would love to sign Batum, I think the chances of Portland letting him go are low. They are far more likely to let the aging Crash go instead.
Unfortunately Marion is 36 this summer with two more years on his deal at 8.6 and 9.3 million. That is going to be a lot of money to pay a 38 year old unless he somehow remains an age-defier like Nash.

Yeah it's the last year that scares me
I’d like him for the rest of this year, and even next year. But $9.3M in 13/14, is a risk we should avoid.
Don't like the idea. We need someone that can stretch the defense. A shooter who could play D
Someone like Battier who could camp at the 3 point line. Look at Marion’s 3 pt shooting % from 2007-2011. Makes Wes look like he could win the 3pt contest.
It’s a shame really, because with his skill set The Bee’s Knees should be able to hit open threes and play defense.
I'd also like to add
Beasley is averaging more points on less minutes. Shooting a similar percentage and much higher from downtown. Similar rebound numbers as well his contract is expiring. His defense is obviously worse, but Marion is no Tony Allen.
If I could get Marion for parts, I probably would
He still plays well, does things on both ends. Knows how to be a medium usage guy and effective. Has never been a below average player in any season (according to WS/48) in a long career. Yes please. I know you are probably paying him for a poor final season, but I believe that the new CBA would let you stretch that last year out over 3 in terms of salary cap implcations, so it wouldn’t hurt that much.
I’m not sure Dallas would do it. If they were playing .500 ball they might, but things might be going a little to well for them right now to make another contract dump trade. Still, they could be in position to make a run at both williams and Howard in the summer.

The new CBA
Only lets you do that with contracts signed after the new CBA came in to place
Roddy > The Matrix
The Matrix is old… Roddy is young and can shoot (or at least he should be able to)
Lukewarm to this idea
It’s the age. You just never know when the cliff’s coming at that point.
The Wolves could conceivably decline Beasley’s QO and see if Gerald Wallace wants to go to FA. They’d get a massive upgrade at SF, only Wallace isn’t 30 yet whereas Marion’s almost 34. (Or if Wallace opts to take his final year, see if the numbers game shakes out Batum..)
Granted, that wouldn’t help this year…
I’m a Marion fan and have longed for the Wolves to consider a player such as him or Wallace (or now Kawhi Leonard), but I just don’t know if I want that type of money eventually going to a 35-year-old.
If POR picks Batum (and they should)
Wallace would be a pretty good get. Doesn’t he have a player option for next year, though?
If we want Marion
we can always wait until this summer when Cuban amnesties him to clear space for Howard and DWank.
That eliminates our requirement to pay him $9.3 effing million when he’s 38.
Reason is the first victim of strong emotion.
They need to save the amnesty for Haywood. Marion they need to send out for an expiring or TPE.

I completely forgot about Haywood.
Either of them could be tough to move.
