D12? Welcome to the Island of Misfit Toys (With Poll!!!)

First of all, let me say that I'm an avid reader of CH and love all of the varying personalities on display here. I'm not normally one to field oddball trade scenarios, and I know Dwight hasn't expressed interest in coming here, but bear with me for a minute...

Star-divide

Let's assume that Dwight wants to sign with a team where he has a long-term chance of success, above all other considerations (market size, weather, etc..). Who better to sign with than the Timberwolves? With a young core of Love and Rubio, and some rising talent (Pekovich and Williams) to trade Orlando, who is to say we couldn't put together a reasonable trade proposal for Howard?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=78g68yu

Here's my idea:

Orlando gets Pek, Beasley, Darko, Wes and Williams. Minny gets Howard and Turkoglu. Orlando gets players on reasonable contracts, a one year rental in Beasley, a shot at letting Williams and Johnson develop, and a budding true center in Pekovich.

Ok, I know it won't happen. But wouldn't this be a reasonable proposal for obtaining Howard? Do you think the Magic will get a better offer elsewhere?

I'd love to hears your opinions, reasonings and reasonable criticisms.

Missing one big thing....

the assumption you’re making (will play for us) is what would hold everything back.

Really

No offense, but these discussions are tiresome.

I doubt Orlando could do better

But I’m quickly moving into the “don’t trade Pek”camp. I’ve always liked him, bit now I can like him as a basketball player, too. It is way more fun to root for people like him than big-timers you just pay for at their peak. So, I’d say no, myself. Though if it happened I’d have to be interested in our championship odds. We’d still need a SF, too, unless I’m forgetting someone.

PEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK!

Howard isn’t that big an upgrade.

I'm going to brag. I drive the Nikola Pekovic fanwagon.

Howard isn't an upgrade. Noone is an upgrade over Tyrannosaurus Pek.

I agree

New Jersey or the Lakers won’t give him a better package.

I think this is the first time in history one man managed to destroy an entire city by himself. Even the Enola Gay had a flight crew.

unfortunately

Dwight Howard is an a$$hole crybaby. Also, my assumption (my assumption, not fact) is that he spends the off season doing his crazy workouts rather than working on his game like he should be. After posting videos of himself with Hakeem he seems satisfied and goes back to sculpting his body.

by SirLusciousLeftFoot on Feb 9, 2012 6:56 PM CST reply actions

Yup, crybaby

He's Ricky Rubio. He’s not like anyone else.

Not bad

Would we be able to do the opposite of sign and trade and do a trade and cut with Hedo or has that passed/only used for players already on our team?

I don’t think the players would work out like that, Orlando would either like Beasley or Williams more and they would take 1 of them then probably want a pick to get their own player.

by Gophers12 on Feb 9, 2012 7:15 PM CST reply actions

If you mean the amnesty clause in the CBA

it only applies to people under contract with that specific team prior to the start of the lockout. So, no, no trading for Hedo, then using amnesty on his contract.

The Rubio with his passing, I say nothing because it's crazy! As we enjoy!

42 people on canis are smoking cause that's a damn good trade for Orlando.

We have to give up the Utah and probably Memphis pick but I don’t know what else they could get that’s better for Howard,

by Doug West Domination!!! on Feb 9, 2012 10:48 PM CST reply actions

Howard already said where he wants to go

if he come to Minnesota he will not extend his contract so this is really pointless.

We have 5 players worth of keeping: Love, Rubio, D-Will, Pekovic, Barea.
Everything else that has any trade value – Beasley, Wes, Randolph, Ridnour, Webster (and Utah, Memphis and our own 2014 1st rounders) – trade for 2 quality wings.
If possible, save some trade resources for future improvement on center position when we measure where are we with real wings.

FA

Why not trade for a top tier SG or SF instead. Then use that new addition, RIcky and Love to entice D12 to sign as a free agent. If we couldn’t get D12 then we would still have our own version of a BIG3.

by SheaBo on Feb 10, 2012 12:38 AM CST reply actions

He would not resign here

He just would not. Regardless of how amazing our team is.

Pipe Dreams

Howard didn’t want to sign with Golden State who have other interesting pieces Ellis, Curry, Lee ect.
Howard is strictly interested in big markets.

by GritNGrind on Feb 10, 2012 9:45 AM CST reply actions

Not even close

I didn’t bother reading the trade, the reason it isn’t close is because if he just wants to win, I’m sure Chicago could offer a great package for him and he has no interest in Chicago (Deng + Noah). If he doesn’t want to go to Chicago, he doesn’t want to come here. That said Pek + Williams +filler is probably an interesting proposal from their perspective. Throw in a Ridnour and it might be one of the better packages they could get.

by zebano on Feb 10, 2012 9:50 AM CST reply actions

I guess the only advantage here is that he would be the top banana

I think he wants to be the man and I’ve heard that’s why LAL is not on his list of destinations playing with Rubio and Love he would still be the man, but my opinion above still stands.

by zebano on Feb 10, 2012 9:51 AM CST up reply actions

If that happened..

I’d be looking out my mouse ears.

Just in case I misunderstood…part of the “carrot” is he would be playing with “rising talent” (Pek / Derrick Williams) but they are part of the trade? How does that work?

I’m not keen on Howard in much the same way as SirLuciousLeftFoot said above…anyway, the Twolves need a shooting guard……let’s focus on that.
