As some of you may remember, Sonia Grover used to provide a great recap each morning of the previous day's stories. I'm going to bring back that feature.
This weekend's updates:
- From Jon Krawcyznski, Associated Press: At last Friday's end-of-season press conference, David Kahn stated that Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love are the only untouchables on the Timberwolves. "They're cornerstones of what we're doing here, and my fervent hope is that each of them retires here." Rick Adelman says the Wolves should be "very aggressive" this offseason. Kevin Love echoed Adelman's opinion.
- After the Utah Jazz lost a three-way tiebreaker with the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks, the Wolves will receive the 18th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft from Utah. The Wolves also own the 58th overall pick, which they received in a trade with Oklahoma City.
- Anthony Randolph seduces you with his potential, and then continually lets you down. Hardwood Paroxysm's Steve McPherson takes a terrific look at Randolph's inconsistencies.
- Minnesota Lynx training camp started on Sunday at the Target Center. The Lynx' Mark Remme is providing coverage of training camp over at the team's official website.
NBA Playoffs Round-Up
- Chicago defeated Philadelphia 103-91, but lost Derrick Rose for the season after he tore his ACL
- LeBron James scored 32 points, the Knicks' starters scored a combined 30 points, and the Heat get a 33-point win in Game 1. Tyson Chandler got a flagrant foul on this play, and unfortunately, Iman Shumpert tore his ACL.
- Without Dwight Howard, the Orlando Magic were still able to get a win against Indiana in Game 1. Glen Davis scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
- Thanks to this shot from Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder were able to get a thrilling home win over the Dallas Mavericks, 99-98.
- After getting upset as the #1 seed in last year's playoffs, the Spurs came out strong this year with a 15-point win over Utah. Tony Parker had 28 points on 19 shots.
- Andrew Bynum tied an NBA playoff record with 10 blocked shots (Mark Eaton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were the other two to do it), and had a triple double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Nuggets looked completely unable to counter the Lakers' length and lost 103-88.
- In a low scoring affair where Paul Pierce went 5-19, Kevin Garnett went 8-19 and Joe Johnson went 3-15, the Hawks won 83-74. Josh Smith had 22 points and 18 rebounds to lead Atlanta. At the end of the game, Rajon Rondo was ejected for arguing with and then bumping referee Marc Davis. Rondo may be facing a suspension for Game 2.
- The Los Angeles Clippers came back from down 24 points with 8 minutes left in the game to steal Game 1, 99-98. Memphis was outscored 35-13 in the 4th quarter. Nick Young exploded off of the bench with 19 points on 9 shots. A bit of bad news for the Clippers: Caron Butler broke his hand.
