Bjelica in Minnesota

On the eve of the NBA draft, thought you all might be interested in the news coming out of Serbia. I have translated the article from the Serbian Sportski Zurnal to English. Although it's promising news, I think TWolves fans will have to wait at least one more year before Bjelica makes the jump to the NBA.

Serbian press are reporting that Nemanja Bjelica has travelled to Minnesota on the invite of GM David Kahn.

Kahn expressed his desire that Bjelica comes to MN, have a few workout sessions and get to know coach Rick Adelman.

Of course, in a team which includes Darko Milicic and Nikola Pekovic, they also want to see what Bjelica’s plans are for the future, with regards to how realistic it is to expect to see him join the team - very important information before this year’s upcoming draft.

This is one more example of how seriously the NBA is thinking of Bjelica. Our ace is still contracted to Caha Laboral where at the end of the season he exploded and made an impression in the Spanish league playoffs. However, his contract also includes a get-out clause which allows him to leave for the NBA at the end of each season.

As things currently stand, the chances that Bjelica will be wearing the number 44 jersey for MN are minimal, in relation to the fact that Bjelica himself has said that Caha Laboral is his priority and that there is a lot of work in front of him before entering the world’s toughest league. But, as with all top players, his dream is to play in the NBA. The Basque country is the ideal jumping-off point for European players which can be confirmed with the careers of Splitter, Teletovic, Scola, Nocioni and Calderon.

One thing is certain, Bjelica will have little time for a break since he will be joining up with the Serbian national team on 9th July.
