Here is the list of the available free agents. And I have ranked them based on who I think would fit the team better and who would give us better production.
Of course I hate that the wolves didn't had a go at bidding on Scola because of the Batum drama. Scola for $3.3mil/year is a steal. Scola would be a great offense off the bench. Although, yes this would be redundant K.Love is already on the team. And similar to Love, Scola has great offense abut not-so-great defense.
Another bid up for grabs is Birdman. If the wolves could get him For less than $2mil/year (although I'm not sure how much would be the minimum bid for Birdman is) that would be a great grab for the team.
I don't think B.Roy would hold up for the rest of the season. I love Shved's skill set but I can't be sold unless I see him play against NBA caliber defense. And to be clear, I'm a Shved fan during his Euroleague days.
Below is the list...
Tier 1:
· Age: 26 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 9.8 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 1.4 APG, .501 FG%
· Status: Restricted
I would love to have Rush as our SG. He has great 3pt% and I believe his defense is underrated. The only problem is that he is a restricted free agent & i fell another mini drama happening.
· Age: 26 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 11.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.5 APG, .433 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
As for Lee, like Rush his defense is underrated. But as rumors go on about interest in Lee, his price continues to go up. I don't want the wolves to spend more than $5mil/year on Lee. For What it's worth, I think he's a $4mil/year guy. The team don't need to over pay. We already dodged Batum's contract.
· Age: 29 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 11.1 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 1.5 APG, .425 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
"The Brazilian Blur" Correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen Barbosa attack the basket during his early days in the NBA. Although since he moved to Toronto, he became more of a spot-up guy, which I believe is not his strength. I love the old Barbosa. Running the break. Cutting towards the basket.
· Age: 29 | Position: SF
· '11-12 Stats: 9.0 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 2.3 APG, .402 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Delfino is a good player. He's underrated by some & overrated by some. Delfino is a smart player. Not the best defender, and not athletically gifted. But he have stepped up for the Bucks whenever he's on the floor; specially during the time when they were hit with injuries.
· Age: 28 | Position: PF
· '11-12 Stats: 12.5 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 0.9 APG, .503 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
He would want to command a lot of cash and playing time. I don't think coming off the bench will be an issue for him as long as he gets enough playing time. Like my above explanation on Scola this would be a redundant signing. Yet still, Landry plays hard and his contract has always been worth it.
Tier 2:
· Age: 27 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 6.9 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.1 APG, .427 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Great defense, bad offense. Brewer is a guard. Not a shooting guard. But for a cheap contract, who wouldn't want to have this lock down defender on his team? I'm glad that the wolves have interest on him but I hope he's not a priority sign the team seems to be already committed to Roy & Shved.
· Age: 24 | Position: SF
· '11-12 Stats: 10.6 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 1.8 APG, .412 FG%
· Status: Restricted
He showed some flashes last season. I'm intrigued by Gee. Thus placing him in this Tier. I wish he could be had for cheap.
· Age: 29 | Position: C
· '11-12 Stats: 3.0 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 0.6 APG, .576 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
We all know how this guy plays. All effort everytime he's on the floor. I like Turiaf as an undersized center along Love or being Love's backup. His intensity will carry on towards the team. I've seen it during the playoffs.
· Age: 26 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 11.0 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.2 APG, .420 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
I just like to see him receive alley-oops from Rubio. plus Brown has shown that he can occasionally hit threes.
· Age: 24 | Position: C
· '11-12 Stats: 5.4 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 0.3 APG, .461 FG%
· Status: Restricted
His brother just got signed for a lot of money. Maybe he could sign with the wolves for less since twins share everything anyways. Right? Plus that hair style would be grat in a Wolves uniform.
· Age: 25 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 9.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 1.2 APG, .381 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Production as been down for CJ since Utah lost Sloan. I strongly believe that being in Adelman's system would benefit Miles. He's a smart player. Can shoot 3's. And is an athletic wing. I would like this signing for the team.
Tier 3.1:
· Age: 26 | Position: C
· '11-12 Stats: 2.9 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 0.5 APG, .545 FG%
· Status: Restricted
I know he's a great blocker, and will be a fan favorite. But I'm not sold on his 1-on-1 defense. And he doesn't have a great offense. Wouldn't be worth $2mil/year bump from his previous contract.
· Age: 24 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 8.4 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 0.8 APG, .409 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Good shooter. I don't have much to say. I think that's his only skill..?
· Age: 24 | Position: SF
· '11-12 Stats: 7.1 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.2 APG, .429 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
I try to imagine him on a Kings jersey and all I can remember is Marcus Thorton. Why? Anyway he's an athletic wing and still 24 yrs old. I really don't want this much but I can still see potential.
· Age: 28 | Position: PF
· '11-12 Stats: 6.4 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 0.6 APG, .513 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Like Turiaf. But cheaper.
Tier 3.2
· Louis Amundson
· Age: 29 | Position: PF
· '11-12 Stats: 3.6 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 0.2 APG, .430 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Like Ivan Johnson & I hope him to be much much cheaper. But because of hos previous contract, I doubt it.
· Age: 26 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 11.8 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 1.5 APG, .417 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Another shooter here. I'd rather roll with Shved this season.
· Age: 26 | Position: SF
· '11-12 Stats: 3.5 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1.7 APG, .448 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
I just added him here because some guys from cannis like him. I dont.
· Age: 32 | Position: SF
· '11-12 Stats: 7.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2.0 APG, .452 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
A better version of Brewer since he can shoot the 3's but he's much older. A short contract would be fine.
· Age: 24 | Position: PF
· '11-12 Stats: 5.0 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 0.4 APG, .497 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
If the rumors are true, I hope we stay away from signing him. $15mil/3years? God! Please no!
· Age: 27 | Position: C
· '11-12 Stats: 2.0 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 0.2 APG, .542 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
I see him as a Steisma production but could be had for less money since he wasn't showcased in Memphis. Steisma had a lot of playing time because of the lack of big bodies for the Celtics thus a more commanding contract. And with Haddadi, we would now have the Arab fan base on our side.
· Age: 26 | Position: PF
· '11-12 Stats: 4.1 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 0.4 APG, .390 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Another guy wort the contract. And also a fan favorite i guess. AT, we would love to have you back. Just be patient because you're not really a priority.
Tier 4:
· Age: 35 | Position: PF
· '11-12 Stats: 1.0 PPG, 0.8 RPG, 0.4 APG, .255 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
I would love to have him back on the locker room. Just the locker room!
· Age: 32 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 8.2 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 0.6 APG, .400 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
A challenge for Roy's playing time. Whoever's knees hold up, gets the playing time.
· Age: 32 | Position: C
· '11-12 Stats: 2.0 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 0.2 APG, .458 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Vets minimum? A shot blocker with not much to offer, just like Steisma. Although I think he will just be injured the whole season.
· Age: 33 | Position: SG
· '11-12 Stats: 5.3 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 2.1 APG, .437 FG%
· Status: Unrestricted
Tmac's back vs Roy's knees. Although he was quite impressive in ATL.
Well to clarify everything... I don't really think the Wolves should pursue any of the above free agents and give them a multi-year high payout. I'd rather have the team wait out next year's free agents and retain all this cap space if possible. Just sign another average wing & big for a year. We already have Shved, Roy & Bud. Add in Wes & a bit of D.Will at SF. And I think we can survive another disappointing season. I forgot about Hummel & Lee. We're still disappointing.
No one available would be a real difference maker for the team. These are just average players not really stater worthy (except for Carl Landry).
If we still have that cap space... Remember.. Kevin Martin will be an unrestricted free agent... (you guys like him... you're just like Adelman.. you should be called Adelmans!!!)
Here's a potential list: 2013 free agents
