POR-MIN Musical Preview: Fred, Carrie, Grant and Mary

Although we got a good start on the Portland-Minnesota music thang back in November, we really just scratched the surface. And with the not-Sonics and Grizzlies having migrated east years ago, the Seattle, Olympia and Vancouver music scenes should be fair game here too.

So ... where to start?

Well, Portlandia kicks off its third season tonight. I don't have cable and haven't seen much of the show, but here's Fred Armisen on the drums, circa 1992:

And here's Carrie with Sleater-Kinney, circa 1996 at the Whole Music Club:

For the Minneapolis side of the TV dial, I'll take the easy choice -- the Huskers du-ing the Mary Tyler Moore show theme, circa 1985:

And for good luck, here's Mary herself (with a young Dave Letterman!) singin' a tune, circa 1978:

Plenty o' places to go here; one direction is as good as another. Let's have at it.
