Well, most rookies have now played a bit or will soon play a bit, so what's everyone seeing?
I picked Glen Rice Jr. to follow, so I saw that Wizards game. here's the summary
Rice was the last guy off the bench for the Wizards, he only came on a good ways into the 3rd Quarter, he was a quiet in the first run, though he did draw a foul and got a couple buckets and missed a shot. Unlike the main concern we had for him though, he looked like he was rather active on defense, with a couple of steals.
However, he came on against after a short rest in the 4th and kinda took over, including the final play where the Wizards screwed up a last second play that turned into a Eric Maynor off balance prayer shot, however Rice just flew in and slammed it home. sending the game into OT.
The Wizards lost in OT though, the general summary on Rice was
A. shot wasn't really falling. the 3s especially was missing badly, as he was 0-4 there, but 3-4 inside the arc
B. he drew a ton of fouls: took 7 free throws and hit 6 of them. there really is a bit of James Harden lite game in him, some plays he kinda was intentionally looking for contact. it's not pretty but hey, when your on pace for like 25 points per 36 while bricking every 3, you'll take it.
C. defense better than suspected : still some bad plays including getting blown by pretty easily on at least one occasion, but active and clearly trying. sort of got posterized by Teletovic trying to fight for rebound. he needs to be hidden more to the baseline on defense IMHO, he will have a hard time going 1 on 1 against guards up high. but does have the vertical and instinct to get some blocks / steals / rebounds. if you can just avoid him getting blown by all the time he might actually be a decent defender.
Final line, 12 points in 16 min, 3 rebound, 2 steals, 2 fouls, he kinda stole the show there really, especially since he really was literally the last guy off the bench. that buzzer beating put back dunk will surely be on the highlights. and the Wizards went from ignoring him in his first few min on offense to going to him as the primary guy by over time.
