Holy cow, another game already? Hardly enough time to bask in the glow of last night's win - though basking in a win over Memphis would be even better.
So, music.
EDM is a genre that I don't know well, but I do like very much some of what I've heard and been unmoved by a fair amount. I have not experienced it live, which is something I should rectify. But it's vital and it's contemporary, let's talk about it and share links. No doubt some of you are quite well versed.
For starters, let me mention the Lefsetz Letter. Bob Lefsetz is one of my favorite online voices; he's a music industry pro who sends out a mass email whenever he is so moved - three times a day, nothing for three days, so on. He is smart, opinionated, forward thinking, funny, and loves music, especially the classic rock he grew up on. The LL is widely read in the industry. Lefsetz takes very strong stands against the old guard and is unafraid of hard truths. He pisses off some people, which in this case is a good sign.
A few months ago he was at an event in Aspen and heard Philip Blaine give a talk on the history of EDM, was impressed, and asked Blaine to create an accompanying spotify playlist. Here is the relevant LL. Check it out and subscribe if you like what you see.
One of the acts mentioned in that history is Daft Punk. I'll leave you with a fun video they did with my favorite music video director, Michel Gondry:
