We all know the legend of the mythical Phoenix. From the ashes of it's predecessor a new Phoenix is born and so forth. Something like this. Ok, I'm not really up my my Mythology but it involves a bird, fire, ashes and rebirth. It's this rebirth that I am interested in here. Because we have already had at Arizona bands and agreed that the only band from anywhere near Arizona is Calexico* I will use this opportunity to hastily throw together words in service of a half assed idea I had associated with this mythical Phoenix. I must admit that when I first started thinking about this I expected the ideas to roll in at an uncontrollable rate. Instead ideas trickled my way as if on the lonesome back of a Bisbee tumbleweed. Still I persist looking at bands that were born from the ashes of a previous band that had flamed out. I am hopeful that others here will have better examples than I. Well, here goes:
From the ashes of Buffalo Springfield:
CSN&Y was born.
And from the Ashes of At the Drive In:
was born the Mars Volta.
What examples can you think of?
*This is unlikely to be true. I'm sure there are many bands from Arizona and I have not doubt that they were discussed previously in these very threads.
