Someone on reddit linked to this video which is a compilation of shaky officiating calls throughout the Lakers "Lazerus-like resurrection". I've always been intrigued by the idea that the NBA rigs games (every since the Patrick Ewing frozen envelope kerfuffle) but never took it too seriously... however this prolonged stretch of bad officiating has been disconcerting.
I can't honestly believe that the NBA would risk it's brand by promoting "star calls" or casting some influence over the refs, but when you think about it, the lack of parity in the NBA is quite shocking.
8 teams have won championships over the past 28 years, and the "big four" franchises, Bulls, Spurs, Celtics, Lakers, account for 43 of the 66 championships in the history of the NBA. There are rarely any upsets in the playoffs, and the same teams are in the running every year.
There are a lot of people on here who have a better understanding of basketball and the history of the NBA, but what are your honest opinions on the current state of basketball officiating? Is it clean? Or is there some dirt behind the scenes.
