The Best Story in College Basketball Right Now

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

is not a role-player's busted leg or an abusive coach getting fired. It's the Louisville Cardinals women's team and their improbable run to the championship game.

Led by Shoni "Showtime" Schimmel and the upbeat intensity of coach Jeff Walz, the Cardinals have upset Purdue, Baylor (in a game many are calling "the greatest upset in the history of women's basketball"), Tennessee, and Cal to face UConn Tuesday night.

By the way, I've mentioned Schimimel and her teammate/sister Jude before, and noted that I first became aware of them two years ago after watching a documentary about Shoni and her family entitled Off the Rez. The film was produced and directed by Jonathan Hock, who is also responsible for acclaimed documentaries on NC State and Jim Valvano, running back Marcus Dupree, and basketball star and recovering addict Chris Herren.

Off the Rez was broadcast only one time on TLC in 2011, and has never been shown again. It can't be rented, bought, or viewed online. But in response to Louisville's surprising success, it is being aired tomorrow night (Tuesday) on something called "Discovery Fit & Health" at 6 p.m. (Eastern?).

If you like good basketball, great stories told well, and have a cable package that contains the several hundred channels you would need to include Discovery Fit & Health, check it out.
