Just a couple thoughts on the trade...
Thinking about the FA market, I didn't really see Martin as a great option, but much like C-Patt going to the Vikings, now that we did it, the more I think about it, the more this move encourages me about our future.
-Great to see that Flip is focused on making a 'Rick Adelman' type team. I think we all were afraid for a second that Flip was going to try and revamp the team with players like O.J. Mayo and all but push Adelman out the door so that Flip could coach. Instead, he seems focused on being a good GM and building a mid-level playoff team. So far so good, but Flip's still got a long way to go this off season.
-Doesn't this mean Adelman is likely going to stay for minimum 2, probably 3-4 more years? Kevin Martin left a championship caliber team to come here, and Budinger is supposedly staying here for less money than he was offered elsewhere. These were multi-year deals, and its pretty obvious that coming to play with their old coach was the main motivating factor for them to come. If RA was planning on leaving this year, or even the year after this year, I really don't think either of these guys were willing to come here.
-With RA staying, I think As long as we have some success this year, I don't see Love giving up on the team anymore.
-I think its way too premature to dismiss all chances of Andrei Kirilenko returning. He still has reasons to return... primarily the presence of Adelman and Shved. Also, he opted out because it would be stupid not to insure one more big deal at his age. Meanwhile, with the Spur's signing Splitter to that mega-deal, it looks like as long as we can dump JJ and D-will, (and Pek doesn't cost the max) can't we offer as much as they can? No guarantee, but getting AK back would make our team look crisp as hell.
Crisp. As. Hell.
A man can hope can't he...
