Wolves' Seasonal Milestones: #4

First, a question: where is our "Wolves of Wall Street" parody? Surely someone's done one by now - an E-6 work of art or a Cynical Jason log line? Anyone?

Anyway...

I am late with this milestone (I post one every nine games). Game #36 was the victory over Charlotte, but limited access to the internet this weekend has me posting this on Sunday night, after the Wolves' loss to SAS. All stats below are through 36 games.

So what's to say? The team has settled into being what it is, essentially. The questions we're asking as the season approaches the halfway mark aren't new: Can they win close games? How much will Turiaf and Bud help? Will there be a trade before the deadline? Will the Wolves be able to make up enough ground by the end of the season to reach the playoffs?

I remain optimistic. They finally have a completely healthy roster and - not incidentally - the bench has gradually improved from hideous to inconsistently promising.

The Wolves went 5-4 over the past nine games, I had forecast a 6-3 run. As we all know, they were just a defensive stop or made shot short of that record - or better. But it is what it is.

NOTES

MN is:

  • 7th in differential
  • 11th in strength of schedule
  • 6th in SRS
  • 4th in ORtg and 10th in DRtg
  • 2nd in pace
  • Four Factors (offense): 24th in eFG%; 3rd in TOV%; 4th in ORB%; 5th in FT/FGA

The big change over the last nine games, as Madison Dan noted elsewhere, is the improvement in the offense, rising from 10th in ORtg to 4th. Drtg remained the same at 10th.

Projected record: 5-4. Okay, so I already know that they lost to SAS, but I think we can all agree that's what any reasonable person would have predicted. The Wolves should win the three home games, beat UTAH on the road, and need to pick up at least one of the TOR/GSW/POR away games.
