In this post, I will direct attention to the incredible drafting savvy of a certain northern NBA Franchise. Mr. Gorgui Dieng stacks up pretty well in the PER department for his draft class (link). Of course, it is small sample size theatre, his few minutes don't even qualify him for the charts, there are plenty of limitations to his game, additional obfuscations that can be added, blah, blah, blah . . .
However, I am happy to see the PER number for Gorgui in relation to his peers. Flip, you did well here. Not saying the Timberwolves have the best GM in the business - not saying Gorgui is the next Dwight Howard - just pointing out that the Wolves might have used their 2nd draft choice in the 2013 draft class quite prudently.
A second consideration is that I think we may have one of the best assistant coaches for big men in the league. Jack Sikma took a very rough prospect in Pek and turned him into a pretty decent center. Gorgui also qualified as pretty rough when we picked him. Ronny Turiaf has played better this year, under Sikma, than he has in years. We also have this PF/C guy who has played pretty well under Sikma's tutelage.
OK, now back to Mr. Dieng. The above is my take. Any other impressions (of Gorgui, Flip's drafting prowess or Sikma)?
