I'm having a hard time trying to get a good read about this upcoming draft. I'm unsure of whether the Wolves should pick up a young athletic guy (Lavine, Payton) or a skill-first threat (McDermott, Stauskas). If we have a chance to trade down in the draft and can get a guy like Payton later in the first round and maybe pick up a serviceable wing player - what's Caron Butler up to these days? - Would you guys do it?
Assuming we can get a guy like Patric Young in the 2nd round of the draft, what position do you see as most needed in the first round, considering we have a gaping hole at the top 3 positions off the bench. Sorry, but JJ can't run the point in the NBA, Shved has lost all confidence, dignity, and about a pint of blood this year, and Chase is too inconsistent for my liking. Shabazz has a chance to be a good player, but we'll know more about that after next year gets started and we see what kind of playing time he gets.
If I had to make the picks based on where we are now in the draft, I think I'd go with McDermott or Stauskas, whoever's left in the first round (about pick 12, give or take). If a guy like Semaj Christon is still there at pick 42, take him, otherwise take a guy like Russ Smith or Xavier Thames. And, since we get the Warriors 2nd rounder (currently projected 53rd) I'll take Patric Young.
