Adrian Wojnarowski Pritch Slaps Kevin Pritchard

Dave Deckard of Blazer's Edge gives his take on the article here. While Dave rightly sticks to the line that the Blazers broke no laws in their treatment of Darius Miles, I believe the overriding issue here is that Portland used their available legal tools in a manner that can most charitably be described as unbecoming. Dave writes that Wojnarowski's column was a bit over the top, but consider the subject matter. Leaking medical information to the press, bad-mouthing a specific player to opposing GMs, attempting to claim said player off waivers to inactively stash him on the bench and sending out a league-wide email threatening to sue anyone who signs Miles is a pretty high bar for absurdity and I do not think that Wojnarowski in any way, shape or form clears it. In other words, outrage is justified and Blazers fans should thank their lucky stars that such feelings did not publicly make their way out of the league office, specifically in the form of some type of sanctions. I think the thing that is lost on most Blazers fans here is that this isn't an issue of any laws being broken, but rather one of asking what type of upside-down culture does one have to exist in to think that it would be OK to do what Kevin Pritchard did? I can think of all sorts of legal things that one could do that would not pass basic ethical standards. This isn't even a case of violating "unwritten rules"; it's simply one of a certain GM lacking anything approaching perspective when it comes to weighing his team's interests against those of a former employee.

It's official: Memphis is my new 2nd favorite team!!!

"TORONTO — Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said Friday night the team has signed veteran forward Darius Miles to a 10-day contract. Amid simmering controversy, the move sets the stage for Miles to continue a comeback attempt from major knee surgery and adversely affect his former team’s salary cap situation in the process." Congrats to Memphis on their Pritch-slap of Portland. Keep an eye on 3 Shades of Blue and Beyond the Arc for more.
