Wolves Updates 6/17

Johnson has second workout for team Wed morn, Kahn: Cousins' camp assured there could be an opportunity here, Favors workout scheduled for Thursday and more

From Jerry Zgoda/Star Tribune:

Johnson was the first candidate for that fourth pick into town. He arrived Monday afternoon, dined with Wolves boss David Kahn and Kurt Rambis, hung with friend and former Syracuse teammate Jonny Flynn (they never played together, but practiced for a season while Johnson sat out after transferring from Iowa State) and worked out solo Tuesday afternoon in a 90-minute session cut a bit short because of a sore toe.

It was quite a crowd watching one guy work out: All the Wolves front office staff and regional scouts were there. So, too, were team owner Glen Taylor and some of the team's limited partners who stuck around to watch Johnson work out after the ownership group met earlier Tuesday.

Johnson is headed to New Jersey next and said he also has a workout schedule with Philadelphia. That's all he has scheduled for now, an indication his camp thinks he'll be picked no further down than the Wolves and No. 4.

From the Associated Press:

The Wolves would also like to see Cousins in person before they make a decision. His agent has told the team Cousins will not workout for the Wolves because he believes there is not enough room in the frontcourt to ensure enough playing time. Cousins' agent also thinks that the Wolves have settled on Syracuse forward Wesley Johnson, who worked out on Tuesday.

Kahn said that no decisions have been made and has told that to the Cousins camp.

"I think he's been assured that over the last 24 hours there could well be an opportunity here because, as I've said publicly, this is a very fluid situation this summer," Kahn said Tuesday. "And I don't have quite an idea yet how it all will materialize."

Cousins' stance so far will not hold much bearing on whether he is drafted by the Wolves, Ronzone said.

"At the end of the day, I've seen DeMarcus Cousins," he said. "Our staff has seen him. We know DeMarcus Cousins. We'd just like to get him in. These workouts are more for our coaches, see how they coach, see what they pick up. That's huge."

Johnson has already worked out for the Miami Heat this month and will work out again for the Wolves on June 18 and will be joined by his college teammate Lawrence Westbrook.
