Pekovic will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season so the Wolves will have the opportunity to match an offer the big center receives. There's little doubt that others teams will come calling. Minnesota should have the cap space available to match but with Omar Asik getting a three-year, $25m contract from Houston last season, it's going to cost the Wolves at least that much to keep Pek.
Fortunately, Nikola appears to be happy with his current team and told the Pioneer Press that he wants to stay.
"I like everything about Minnesota," Pekovic said. "First of all, I like the team. I think we can do a lot when we're healthy. I like the coaching staff."
Pekovic is averaging 16 points and nine rebounds per game on a career-high 31 minutes per game. The 27-year-old center from Montenegro is in his third year in the NBA. He appears to like ice fishing.
May or may not be ice fishing on Lake Waconia with Perk and Pek. Does he just reach down and strangle the fish? twitter.com/Twolves_PR/sta…
