Timberwolves Notes: Martin Introduced, Rubio Playing with Spain

Dog. Days. Man, not much is going on right now. The mini-dust up with Shabazz Muhammad was a bit of a relief, in truth. Gave us a day.

Kevin Martin had his introductory press conference in the Twin Cities on Monday.  He sounded happy and confident, asserting that taking on a major scoring role in the starting lineup for the Wolves is something he can "do in his sleep."

If you want to watch the presser, you can do so here.

Eurobasket 2013 is approaching, and we'll have more as we get closer, but teams are playing preparation games now, and the Wolves have two players involved: Alexey Shved with Russia and Ricky Rubio with Spain. On Monday Russia lost to Serbia in Belgrade, though Shved did not play.

Yesterday, Spain took on Poland and won 70-66.  Rubio started alongside Jose Calderon, but did not make a huge impact. This is a changing Spanish team, with a new coach, and without Pau Gasol and Juan Carlos Navarro.

Nikola Pekovic remains unsigned.  That should be a temporary situation, as Doogie reports:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Tag-team report w/ <a href="https://twitter.com/joe_schmit">@Joe_Schmit</a>: hearing from both sides there&#39;s actual progress on the Pek talks. May even see a deal this week. <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23twolves&amp;src=hash">#twolves</a></p>&mdash; Darren Wolfson (@DarrenWolfson) <a href="https://twitter.com/DarrenWolfson/statuses/367049847339094016">August 12, 2013</a></blockquote>

We'll see.  It will get done.
