WNBA Playoffs: Lynx vs Storm Game 1 Open Thread

After a solid stretch to end the regular season, the Lynx are looking to get off to a fast start against the Storm, whom the Lynx swept this season.

After an entertaining pair of games to open the playoffs, the Lynx are preparing to open up their own playoff run tonight against the Seattle Storm. The game will begin at 8pm CST at the Target Center, and will be broadcast live on NBATV. I'll also do my best to live tweet during the game if anyone doesn't have NBATV.

There was a surprising set of road victories in the playoffs' opening night. After getting thrashed by Connecticut to end the regular season, the Phoenix Mercury were able to put together an impressive 86-75 victory on the road. Diana Taurasi led the way for Phoenix with 30 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists.

The Washington Mystics were also able to come away with a victory yesterday evening, beating the Dream 71-56.56. Washington's box score epitomized the term "balanced attack". Four of their five starters finished in double figures, with no player on the roster scoring more than 14 (Latta).

A couple notes and recent developments:

  • Lynx All Star Rebekkah Brunson has been named to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team. She is the only member of the Lynx to make either defensive team.
  • Maya Moore came in second in MVP voting to LA's Candace Parker. You can read the entire voting breakdown here, but in short, it was a close race. Parker came away with 234 points (10 first-place votes), while Moore finished with 218 points (also with 10 first-place votes). It really could have gone either way this year.
