A disappointing end to an entertaining basketball game left the Wolves on the short end of a 105-101 game in Memphis.
The Wolves made a spirited 4th quarter run from down 10, taking the lead on a couple of occasions late, the last time on a Thad Young jumper with three minutes left. Some poor late game execution on both ends cost them the game, however, as the Grizzlies were able to once again rely on their big tandem of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, both of whom had great games.
A full recap is coming later, but there were some encouraging signs for the Wolves, who were able to stay with a team that has always given them trouble. Thad Young led the way with 26 points, and Mo Williams was excellent off the bench. Shabazz Muhammad had a strong game as well, and there were positive signs from fellow 2nd year pro Anthony Bennett.
The Wolves really struggled in the paint tonight on both ends as Nikola Pekovic had trouble getting things going against the size and strength of Memphis, and they turned the ball over excessively. Ricky Rubio had his share of good moments, but also had several sloppy turnovers, including one late that was dubiously ruled out of bounds off him. That play set up the closing couple of minutes with the Wolves behind.
More coming later. What did you think of the tilt?
