Knicks at Wolves
7:00 pm CST
The Wolves host the Knicks tonight at Target Center, playing at home for the first time in two weeks after their odyssey through North America that saw them lose five out of six and several players along the way.
The Knicks have predictably struggled out of the gate this year at 3-9, and are on the 2nd night of a road back to back after losing last night in Milwaukee 117-113. Carmelo Anthony is scoring gobs of points again, but the Knicks have been awful defensively, ranking 27th in the league. They play very small, which is good news for a Wolves team that will be without both Nikola Pekovic and Ronny Turiaf, along with Thad Young and Ricky Rubio.
4th year pro Iman Shumpert has been shooting great to start the season, making over half his two and three point shots, and 2nd year shooting guard Tim Hardaway has been contributing as well off the bench. Trading away Tyson Chandler has been a huge blow to their defense, as his replacement Samuel Dalembert is not nearly the force Chandler can be, and point guard Jose Calderon, also part of that trade, has yet to play due to injury.
The Wolves of course are coming off back to back shellackings, and are massively shorthanded at the moment. It's unclear who will play up front along with Gorgui Dieng, but Anthony Bennett looks set to get a lot of minutes tonight. I'm not sure what to expect--this is not a match up of titans. For the Wolves of course we are required to watch the young guys for signs of progress, since that's all that's left at this point.
Hopefully it will be a better showing than we've seen recently.
