Timberwolves Injury Update: Ricky Rubio Has "Significant" Ankle Sprain

Ricky Rubio underwent an MRI today that confirmed no fracture, but a severe sprain of his left ankle.

Ricky Rubio had an MRI today. Here's the text of the team's release:

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) taken this morning on Ricky Rubio's left ankle confirmed a significant sprain. He will be sidelined indefinitely. A further update will be provided when appropriate.

The injury occurred at the 2:28 mark of the second quarter.

Through five games this season Rubio is averaging 9.4 points, 10.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game.

It sounds as if Rubio will be out for weeks, though there is no timetable for his return. Zgoda has this:

MRI today confirmed Rubio "significant sprain," no fracture, out indefinitely, will likely be at least 2 weeks until they have better idea
— Jerry Zgoda (@JerryZgoda) November 8, 2014

So that's what we know. I wouldn't expect to hear anything about a timetable until they get back to Target Center in 10 days. Hopefully we'll have a better idea then.

Meanwhile, Mo Williams will start at point guard, and it looks like Zach LaVine will handle backup duties. The Wolves could really use an actual point guard.

Until then: Go Mo! Go Zach! Go Wolves!

We can always hope.
