Timberwolves Coaching Update

Some indirect news on the Wolves coaching "search" today.

Rob Carr

As noted in today's Cup of Canis, Glen Taylor once again said that he does not want Flip Saunders coaching the Wolves next season.  That doesn't seem to have convinced everyone, or really anyone, however, as Darren Wolfson wrote this:

Despite numerous public pleas by owner Glen Taylor downplaying this possibility, Saunders remains a name to monitor.

That Wolfson piece includes several names, but mostly in the context of them not being candidates for the job. The one person who Wolfson identifies as someone who could have it if he wanted is Tom Izzo of Michigan State.

However, on a podcast this morning with ESPN's Andy Katz, Izzo said he is not leaving for the NBA:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Izzo nixes NBA, says he&#39;ll return to Spartans on our podcast today: <a href="http://t.co/xasQtiZJCS">http://t.co/xasQtiZJCS</a> via <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNCBB">@espncbb</a></p>&mdash; Andy Katz (@ESPNAndyKatz) <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNAndyKatz/statuses/461532276375822336">April 30, 2014</a></blockquote>

Former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins, and longtime NBA head coach at several stops George Karl have, according to Wolfson, not been contacted, though "multiple sources" say that Karl would be interested. No mention is made of Stan van Gundy, another former successful head coach in the NBA.

It would appear that the Wolves are interested in someone with head coaching experience, but there is no indication yet who, if anyone, they have contacted.

In other words, we have no idea who is on the Wolves list, or if there even is a list.

And that's your Wolves coaching search update.
