World Cup Quarters, Mirotic to Bulls, Rockets Want Bosh?

A few notes for your holiday.

Buda Mendes

Happy 4th of July everyone. This is a holiday open thread, so just a few quick notes:

Germany vs. France 11 am CDT
Brazil vs. Colombia 3 pm CDT

Those are two tasty quarterfinals.  Enjoy.

News comes today that Nikola Mirotic is indeed planning on joining the Bulls this season. This summary considers how this might effect the Bulls pursuit of Carmelo Anthony, but nothing on the possibility of trading him.

Elsewhere, rumblings are that the Rockets will turn their attention to Chris Bosh if they fail to land Anthony. That would be disappointing for many of us, but who knows if it's really true?

It's been a little disturbing that there haven't been any teams rumored to be interested in Love except for Golden State since the draft. I can see a couple of possibilities:

  • Free agency is the hold up, and once the big names settle, teams will return on Love. This seems likely, but still, the Bosh thing in Houston? Really?
  • Teams are being unusually quiet. Could be. Often the trades that happen are trades we didn't hear anything about.
  • Flip is totally focused on making a deal with the Warriors, and other teams know it.
  • Flip is actually not planning to trade Love this summer.
We'll see.

The Lynx beat the San Antonio Silver Stars at Target Center last night 91-84. They ran their record to 13-5 behind 22 from Lindsay Whalen and 21 from Maya Moore. Seimone Augustus missed her 2nd straight game with injury, and Monica Wright started and scored a season high 17 in her place.

That's it for me today. Enjoy your holiday. Avoid fireworks accidents. Don't let your kids play with matches.
