The Lynx are in Indianapolis to take on the Fever tonight at 6:00 pm Central. The Lynx will be looking for their 10th win in a row, while the Fever sit at 13-15 on the season. The West leading Phoenix Mercury are also in action tonight, hosting the East leading Atlanta Dream. The Lynx will look to climb closer to the top spot in the conference. We are approaching the business end of the season, and the Lynx are rounding into form now that they have everyone healthy.
Meanwhile, Maya Moore was named Western Conference Player of the Month for the 2nd time this season. In July, Moore averaged 26.4 points and 8.6 rebounds while the Lynx went 9-1.
She is the clear MVP favorite, and has an outside chance of setting a WNBA record for points in a season, currently held by Diana Taurasi (860 points). She would need to average about 32 points a game over the remainder of the season to reach that number.
She has already set a record for most 30 point games in a season with 11, another mark formerly held by Taurasi.
Finally, Becky Hammon, a long-time WNBA star, most recently with the San Antonio Stars, who announced her retirement earlier this year, will be an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs during the upcoming NBA season. She has long been known for her intelligence on the court and knowledge of the game.
It's a tremendous opportunity for her to break into coaching working for the incomparable Gregg Popovich.
