Pelicans at Wolves
7:00 pm CST
FS North
The Pelicans come in at 21-21 on the season and are led by superstar Anthony Davis, who is just having a monster season in all phases. Despite having several guys regarded as good defenders, however, the Pelicans team defense is rated just 23rd in the league (which remains miles ahead of the hapless Wolves defense, but still...).
They are better offensively despite not being a good or frequent 3 point shooting team, mostly because they rarely turn it over and are strong on the offensive glass. This is an area that will probably hurt the Wolves, as we've seen team after team grab their own misses all season long. Perhaps the return of Pek will help.
The first meeting between these teams is probably best forgotten, as the Pelicans absolutely embarrassed the Wolves in New Orleans in one of the worst losses of the season. The 139-91 final score pretty much tells the tale. Ug. Ly. The Pels shot 67% from the field and an astounding 15-20 from three, incredible since they are not much of a three point shooting team. It was so bad there were two MPEs: Austin Rivers (17 pts on 9 shots) and Luke Babbitt (12 points on 4 shots), and mediocre is pretty kind to those guys. At least Rivers won't kill the Wolves this time.
Nor will Jrue Holiday, who merely went for 24 on 9-10 from the field, as he's out injured tonight. Thank the gods for small favors.
Hopefully tonight will be more competitive.
