Report: Shabazz Muhammad Out for Year with Finger Injury

New, comments

Woj drops the wrong kind of bomb on us with the news that Shabazz Muhammad will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

Woj with the disappointing news:

One night after playing despite a finger injury sustained in practice, it is announced that Shabazz Muhammad will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

Such a disappointment for both the team and Muhammad. This was looking like something of a breakout year for the 2nd year player after he was unable to crack Rick Adelman's rotation as a rookie. This year, due to incredible hard work over the summer and injuries to some key guys early, Muhammad got his opportunity and showed a remarkable ability to score the ball, particularly in the paint and from offensive rebounds.  He was relentless looking for his shot and was for stretches of this season the Wolves most dangerous offensive player.

He missed a few weeks prior to the All-Star break with a strained oblique, and wasn't quite back into things when he returned. The return of injured players, especially Kevin Martin, cut into his playing time, but he was chosen for the Rising Stars game over All-Star Weekend. He apparently hurt his finger in practice prior to Friday's 2nd half opener against Phoenix, but tried to play in that one and could only manage 13 minutes.

Though he had cooled off somewhat, the trajectory of his season was still excellent. He has shown great improvement, and was looking to solidify himself as part of the core of the team going forward.

Now he will have surgery and is out for the remainder of the season. He finishes the year averaging 13.5 points and 4 rebounds a game in 23 minutes per.
